This is all true!

But i say we should all just blame Drake Huggins for our mess!
Just for the sheer audacity of once being employed by the club
And yet No premiership! That's right No premiership Drake!!

He knows what he has done!
Fancy thinking all those 4 hour lunches together with Pelchen in the red light district would go unnoticed!

The Pelican failed to recognise my genius. I would've loved to have had a long lunch with him, but he was never at the club. Had to carry the burden of the long lunch and red light district exploration on my own. It was a dirty job but I was prepared to make the sacrifice.

Hate to burst the bubble, but it’s 7th most talented group of 21-24 year olds not full list.....our mature recruits mark us down so I think it’s the 2nd most amongst them that are above average/elite that is more comforting....
You haven't burst it just yet - so what you're saying is just play the 21-24 year olds and we'll play finals...

The coffee is quite decent as well
For me....the coffee served at the Pokies bar is one of the best I've tasted.

I asked last year where could I buy it from....they told me that it's not available at Retail outlets......they obtain direct from an importer.

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.

There's a boutique roaster in the back blocks of the Cheltenham industrial area.

Maybe that's where it's from.

Batch coffee roasters.

Really worth listening to. Jack Steele gets another mention. I’m really looking forward to watching him this season. Could have an absolute belter the ways it’s shaping up

I actually thought Steele might have snuck into the leadership group.

He was fantastic in the second half of last year. As hard as a boiled lolly and looked to have leadership qualities on the field.

He is a future leader of our club.

He'll probably replace Geary when Ross gets appointed captain.

Probably not a bad thing to give him a year to establish himself as a genuine gun midfielder before we put him in the leadership group.
Slater gave his leadership a big pump up today, so hopefully he is a 2020 prospect.

Slates also mentioned Coff under the exact same circumstances, so I think we might have a precocious leader on our hands there as well. Again, maybe just eternal saints optimist bias

Posted this in the archive section, interview Mike Sheehan and stewie Loewe. Well worth a watch

Watching this, and having just listened to Riewoldt's book, jeez we have had some awful luck in recent years. The tragedy that struck Nicky and Stew the week of 97 GF. Riewoldt injuring his leg week of 09. The poster in the 09 grand final.

It seems like Stewart and Roo have a similar story in a way. Their lives have been defined by football and personal tragedy and I believe they have grown as a result.

As for the Saints, I don't believe in curses or anything like that so I think we are due for some luck next time we make the big one. Here's hoping.

This is from The Age yesterday.

By my reckoning, that's 4 major articles over 5 days.

Saints assure AFL they will get back in the black St Kilda have reassured the AFL Commission that the foundations are in place to meet the football and financial challenges facing the club.

Having finished 16th last season and with a debt of $12 million – about $6 million owing to the AFL – negativity has surrounded the club’s ability to quickly become a contender once again.

However, in a presentation to the AFL Commission and executive at a meeting at Moorabbin yesterday morning, new club president Andrew Bassat and Saints CEO Matt Finnis outlined their confidence in the club’s renewed football program and their ongoing plans to earn enough revenue to straighten up their balance sheet.

The Saints told the meeting they had made a series of changes on and off the field to position the club to be able to take the next step forward and that while moving up the ladder may take time, a boost can be expected after a 2018 season the club has described as ‘‘ a reality check’’ .

Bassat has made it clear since taking up the presidency that every decision made should be in order to support the football program and move the club closer to achieving their second premiership.

In the short term the club expects to receive a financial boost for playing Port Adelaide in China and is banking on reaping more revenue from the stadium deal renegotiated at the start of last year.

The Saints also met their obligation to the AFL in 2018, paying off $700,000 of their debt despite their disappointing season.

With St Kilda receiving more financial support from the AFL in 2018 than any other Victorian club, the Saints were able to show the commission their new facilities at Moorabbin for the first time. They moved into the facilities just before round one last year.

The Saints also have plans to build a health centre available to the club and locals, as well as a hub that will house community football league administrations at Moorabbin . They are currently expanding their facilities for the AFLW team that is expected to enter the competition in 2020.

With AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan , who follows the Saints fortunes keenly, pointedly telling a media briefing last season that St Kilda had no more excuses, their lack of success on field led to many changes at the end of 2018, although they retained contracted coach Alan Richardson.

St Kilda now have a new president , a new list manager – James Gallagher – two new assistant coaches – the experienced Brett Ratten and Brendon Lade – while bringing in veteran football administrator Graeme Allan in an advisory role, NRL star Billy Slater to support their leadership program and Darren O’Shaughnessy in football analysis .

They took a long-term view at the national draft using their first pick to recruit Max King, who is recovering from a knee reconstruction, and took a punt on Sydney Swans’ premiership player Dan Hannebery, who has battled injury for the past two seasons.

They have been pleased with Hannebery’s positive impact already and believe they learnt many lessons last year when they had one win and a draw after 12 games.

This is the most pleasing piece from the article for mine:

“Bassat has made it clear since taking up the presidency that every decision made should be in order to support the football program and move the club closer to achieving their second premiership.”

That has been a consistent message.
Plus his message that success this year is measured in being competitive in every game, not the win/loss.
We can read that any number of ways.
"'Under promise. Over deliver."
"The fan base is restless."
"Give the coach space."

Whichever one you fancy, but I do like the messaging because it fits where we are at the moment.
Disclaimer: that's NOT the message you'd want the Pres to send if we were challenging or playing finals.
