Movie Next James Bond?

A decade ago I was keen for Cavill or Elba, but the former has proven to be lacking x-factor, and the latter's ship has certainly sailed. And I love Craig, so was happy for him to do 3 or 4 (even 5).

The time might be right for an older interim actor for 1 or 2 films. Depends on the direction the franchise wants to take I guess. The likes of Jack Lowden and Xavier Samuel might not fit the classic mold, but they could be examples of some new-age choices worth considering (could see them in that Bond world at the very least). But like other Brits like Riz Ahmed and Daniel Kaluuya, they just have question marks in terms of stature and mold and would need to act out of their skins.

Oscar Isaac is the actor I'd be going after. He could bring a very new take. Has the charm, the scoundrel, the acting skills, some action chops, right age to go career with something like this, maybe do some greyer character work and more team-based stuff. As long as he doesn't have a terrible English accent I'd be up for something like that.

I agree that a female Bond would be too different, like a franchise spin-off, its own thing.

The question I'd be asking is why we haven't yet had a proper female arch villain in twentysomething Bond films. That is more egregious. There are often henchwoman, and occasionally there are a collection of villains one of which happens to be female. Elektra in The World is Not Enough is the closest thus far, and she wasn't marketed as such, Renard was still the batty supervillain and the final fight. Grace Jones was only a chief henchwoman. An out-and-out female arch villain should be the most urgent priority for the franchise to rectify at this point.

Blofield as a scorned lover might have been a more interesting female revamp, but that ship has sailed.

I’d argue Elektra was the chief villain in World is Not Enough, however for the plot twist to take affect her characters plot had develop in the way it did.

Thunderball is the only Bond movie with a true henchwoman.

Strange franchise. Big fans think it's incredible. Rest know it's Vin Diesel action movies with a veneer of British sophistication instead of whatever Vin Diesel is.

Haven't watched a new one since The World is Not Enough (1999). Didn't mind the Roger Moore movies when Channel 10 showed them a lot around 2002.

Hopefully cast a black British actor to piss off racists who don't bat an eyelid at Pierce Brosnan and George Lazenby.

Boy with opinion about what the series is and isn’t hasn’t watched a new film in 20 years.

I don't know if they 'shook things up' but Casino Royale and Skyfall are excellent films and far less campy than what came before.
Unfortunately they have Quantum of Solace sandwiched in between them, a movie which barely qualifies as a "James Bond" film (I describe it as "James Bourne"). QoS is easily the worst Bond movie of all time, even worse than Moonraker and the unofficial Never Say Never Again.

You're not wrong there. I firmly believe the plot to have the Bond villain take over the Bolivian water supply began life as an April Fool's joke and cascaded out of control. Mike Myers is alleged to have thrown up his hands in disgust and said "How the * than I parody that? Not even Dr Evil would come up with a plot so lame." :$

OTOH I re-watched Never Say Never Again a little while back and I think it holds up very well. Certainly better than a few of the canon.

The only good one Daniel Craig has done is Casino Royale

NSNA is just a bad re-make of Thunderball. The original was much better, with a Connery 20 years younger than he was when he reprised the role.

There has been a female ‘Bond’ out in the literary world for around 60 years, her name is Modesty Blaise.
There are about 12/15 novels, and a comic strip has been running since the early 60’s.
