What is your forecast for your sides best 22 to open 2019. Additionally, what would be the best 22 realistically that they could put on the field in season 2019.

Very tough but I will go with something like

FB: Colin O'Riordan, Health Grundy, Aliir Aliir
HB: Jake Lloyd, Dane Rampe, Jackson Thurlow
C: Zak Jones, Luke Parker, Ollie Florent
HF: Tom Papley, Buddy Franklin, Will Hayward
FF: Ben Ronke, Callum Sinclair, Daniel Menzel
R: Sam Naismith, Isaac Heeney, Josh Kennedy
I/C: George Hewett, Callum Mills, Harry Cunningham, Jordan Dawson

Emg: Sam Reid, Ryan Clarke, Nick Blakey, Lewis Melican, Nick Smith

Really tough, as while I personally don't know about Thurlow being in the best 22 from what Longmire has been saying it sounds like he has a good chance of being in there. I also think Melican needs to be in the best 22, but we can't have Melican, Grundy and Aliir all in the same team so if Grundy slows down in 2019 then Melican will come right in to replace him. I also like the look of Ryan Clark, but I am not sure where to put him in the team.

Of course in saying that every team looks great on paper. It isn't until players start spudding it up in actual matches, and then I can't drop players fast enough.

Round 1 will be different though, as odds are Buddy and Menzel won't be playing so I would guess it would be

FB: Colin O'Riordan, Health Grundy, Aliir Aliir
HB: Jake Lloyd, Dane Rampe, Jackson Thurlow
C: Zak Jones, Luke Parker, Ollie Florent
HF: Tom Papley, Sam Reid, Will Hayward
FF: Ben Ronke, Tom McCartin, Jordan Dawson
R: Callum Sinclair, Isaac Heeney, Josh Kennedy
I/C: George Hewett, Callum Mills, Harry Cunningham, Ryan Clarke

Edit. Naismith definitely won't be playing either so I replaced him with McCartin.

Still five weeks before Round 1 starts with the Eagles as defending premiers and the 'drop Masten' people are still out and about.

I've never been one of those posters FP, but he's the best swap with Gaff if Sheed manages to keep up his form from the finals. Suppose you could drop Ah Chee instead, but I like his versatility.

Fair enough then, but the way I see it he has earnt his spot even when Gaff returns.

It will change based on fitness and JLT form but assuming everyone is fully fit my personal 22 would be

B: Vlastuin Rance Grimes
HB: Short Astbury Markov
C: Edwards Cotchin Lambert
HF: Caddy Riewoldt Buttler
F: Rioli Lynch Higgins
R: Nankervis Martin Prestia
INT: Bolton Balta Macintosh Graham

I wouldnt think the match committee would agree though.

Grigg and houli are both best 22, for the time being anyway.

Out of the mids you'd think one of Sheed, Hutchings or Masten go out for Gaff, and unless we change up our gameplan I just can't see Hutch being dropped. But maybe we drop a forward and play an extra mid?

I see Venables (from the premiership side) more likely to be chopped, and of course all you need is one injury and Masten's place becomes a lot more secure.

Hopeful R1 lineup

。FF - Simpkin - Brown - Garner

。C - Polec - Ahern - Jacobs
。HB - Atley - Thompson - Hall
。B - Williams - Tarrant - Mcdonald
。R - Goldstein - Cunnington - Dumont
。Int - Macmillan - Wright - Anderson - Tyson

Hence my 22 and not what I think they'll pick. I think it's time to move forward.
Possibly, I still think both are valuable although will be interesting to see what we do with the ruck set up. Would be good if balta can come in and be an effective 2nd ruck option. Soldo is no good around the ground and makes us too top heavy if he plays 2nd ruck.

Like it, do we go with a 2nd ruck though? Don’t think with the new rules grigg can keep going in there.

Thompson is suspended for round 1. McKay in.

Best 22 for Season 2019 with long term injured guys in bold red with name struck through

FB: Plowman, Weitering, Simpson
HB: Williamson, Marchbank, Docherty
C: E Curnow, Kennedy, Murphy
HF: Fisher, C Curnow, Cuningham
FF: J Silvagni, H McKay, Pickett
R: Kruezer, Crippa, Petreski-Seton
I/C: Mitch McGovern, Lochie O''Brien, Paddy Dow, Will Setterfield

Emg: Michael Gibbons, Sam Walsh, Cam Polson, Nic Newman

Leaders for VFL team: Liam Jones, Dale Thomas, Matthew Lobbe, Alex Fasolo, Levi Casboult, Darcy Lang, Andew Phillips and Jarrod Garlett

For round one clearly no Docherty or Pickett
Unsure of how Tom Williamson, Mitch McGovern, Caleb Marchbank and Will Setterfield are going with the various injuries recovering from but for now expect them in. Williamson did miss all last year but has real dash as half back/winger type and in my 22 when fully fit. Fair chance they may ease him back through VFL and watch how his back is going.

Round one team probably has Nic Newman in for Sam Docherty at half back. The injured Pickett probably back later in season. All the track talk is Cam Polson in really good condition to play as small forward so Polson for Pickett is a no brainer for round one.
Due to one or two others probably not quite ready for round one I fully expect Sam Walsh and Michael Gibbons to make their debut then.
Very excited to see the development of our young midfield and young forward line as season goes on.

I agree, i think we can afford to go with it for rnd 1 but as a future team id include Garthwaite and have Rance as a floating type defender. Then when nank rests, Garth can ruck and Rance takes his man. Cant see how else we do it unless we include someone like Balta as a forward, but then we become too tall in attack imo.

I hope Grigg rucks in round 3. Mummy will have a field day feeding the outside mids directly when he takes the taps.

Yeh, that happened heaps with Grigg rucking over the past 2 seasons so i can see why youre so excited about the prospect.

Im especially worried because after we won the GF all the other teams had a whole preseason to work us and the Grigg rucking thing out, and we stumbled to a 18-4 record, 2 games and % clear of 2nd.

I think Grigg did work in 2017. Basically because he prevented the opposition ruck taking the ball directly. Mummy has always salivated when opposed to a dead ruck, and he's very good at taking advantage with a big fist.

I get there's an element of opposition teams developing tactics. I think the bigger issue is the dominant ruck now has a fair chance if they take the ball directly though. The 6 6 6 rule also creates space in the square I think, and makes it harder to cover the opposition mids.
