Nice find.

Stocker has that naturally powerful build with the strength and acceleration to panic defenders.

This will likely be further developed and I can see him being a medium-sized forward threat, in addition to a stoppage specialist.
You got me thinking of a certain Wayne Johnston with that kind of talk.

Setterfield's TAC cup highlights show he can be a dangerous forward as well, Kennedy is reportedly very good overhead and if Cripps gets his goal kicking sorted he will be a dangerous option when resting forward, throw in SPS, Dow, Fisher and Murphy and we have a dangerous mix.

Setterfield's ability to kick goals on the run from 45-50m out is beautiful.

It's something our midfielders have lacked for a long time.

Hmm. I do this every. god. damn. year.

It always happens - about a month out from the season proper.

Hype.

When I forget about last year, renew my membership and buy into the Club's recruitment drive, our talented youngsters, etc.

Slap some sense into me - all of a sudden I'm tipping us against the Tigers.......

I've got the baggers penciled in for a 19 point win for the opener, don't be to hard on yourself :moustache::moustache:

Thats what we want ...hands on ball 25 times a match...
Fisher and Samo just building to that now and Kennedy as well
Dow OBrein probably Walsh as well wont get anywhere near that
Will take a year or two to build to that........
Stoker has plenty of time in the VFL to build up.and we see what he can dish up
Walsh might just play AFL round 1 ....but he might only gather a dozen possessions in his early games
And that will cost us.........................so we might see less of this sort of thing this year as we try and move away from the bottom of the Ladder in 2019
Do you think possession numbers may trend down a bit now with the 6-6-6 rule?

If the team that gets the clearance can go straight inside 50 without mucking around flipping the ball around then that probably 5-10 possessions less per clearance.

Or am I looking at it the wrong way?

His smooth run out of defence hitting players pinpoint with hand or feet might be just as beautiful. Its something our defence has lacked over the last few years. I'd like to see him trialed at HB.

Once you reach a certain age it's very difficult to learn. Unless it's something nurtured and encouraged at a young age it's an uphill battle. There's almost no chance of it happening in adulthood, which is why despite training every day players for the better part of 20 years Kade Simpson still only has a left foot.
It would be hundreds of thousands of repetitions on his left versus thousands on his right. Very hard to make up the discrepancy.

i placed a reasonable amount of money on Carlton to beat Richmond in round 1 2018. Luckily for me sportsbet has a promotion once you went up by 24 points they paid out the bet. That first quarter was amazing to witness. So wish Kruezer and Kennedy didn’t go down.

Last year I had $50 on us to win & another $50 on the line. Was paid the win when we were 5 goals up in the 1st and then we still managed to finish within the line. May not have got the 4 points but I still had a pretty good night.

Wasnt sure where to put this so I guess it goes here. Here are the games Ive earmarked as winnable for us in 2019.

Round 1 v Richmond
Round 2 v Port
Round 4 v GCS
Round 5 v WB
Round 6 v Hawthorn
Round 10 v Saints
Round 12 v Lions
Round 13 v WB
Round 14 v Bye
Round 18 v GCS
Round 19 v Crows
Round 22 v Saints
Round 23 v Cats

Not saying we could win them all, but these are the ones I think we're a reasonable chance (I know its February). Any that you dont agree with or maybe Ive missed a couple?
Sorry a bit behind, What about Norf?

The boys at AFL house will be hoping so!

It is going to stop any chance of a loose man across halfback running through the square, which also means forwards will push closer to goal at ball ups to create space for the mids to run forward into. Center square set ups are going to be crucial this year.

That is what a lot of people are missing when they look at this rebuild to the Murphy Gibbs Kreuzer Judd rebuild - last time we ended up with 4 elite talents, this time we have 4 years of multiple first round picks (and some real quality in some of the later picks as well) and so while it may be a longer and slower rebuild the heights and length of the peak will be much greater.

If you look just at our best midfield we have added Setterfield and Walsh (possibly Stocker and Gibbons) should get more games out of Murphy, Kreuzer, Kennedy and Fisher (possibly Cuningham) who all had significant injuries last year and the should get good natural development from Dow, SPS and O'Brien.

If you remove Murphy and Kreuzer and only look at the "speculative" players we only need 2 or 3 of the 7-10 players in the MIDFIELD alone to have break out years and the improvement will be dramatic.

Everyone is getting up and about about the Lions this year but from my clearly biased view point we both have a similar amount of talent in the "natural development" category but I think we have a lot more in the "returning from injury" and "net off season gains" area.
In Gibbs first season/ the year before Judd, some of our 20 and unders were Hampson, Grigg, Bower, Betts, Murphy, Walker, Russell, Gibbs, Kennedy, Harlett, Jamison and Jacobs.
That’s 5 top 8 picks (1,1,2,4,8) all 20 or under, another 4 taken before 25 plus 3 future guns Jamison, Betts and Jacobs. Again all 20 or under.

Simpson, Carrazzo, Thornton and even Fisher who kicked 39 goals that year were 23 or under.
Houlihan, Scotland, Waite and Fevola we all 26 and under. Even Stevens was only 27.
Considering at the end of that year we were given picks 1,3 and ~21 our list position looked every bit as good as it does now imo.

I think people forget how bloody highly we rated that group. The problem was we didn’t finish the job off and that’s why from now on is where SOS, Bolton and the like earn their money.

Watch for teams who are behind or getting pummelled try and lock the ball in after the centre bounce to get a repeat ball up. Then they can revert to 1-2-3 spare men in defence. Unless teams get a clear cut centre clearance I expect a lot of repeat ball ups and teams manoeuvring their players instantly.

True, but how does one reconcile this with Doc?; he is Rolls Royce and plays of HB

Docherty is not a great midfielder (on limited exposed form), and certainly doesn't have the junior midfield pedigree of Setterfield nor many of our other young midfielders.

A great half-back flanker, no doubt. A Rolls Royce HBF.

This is where everone comes on and says but the players we have today are better than those players etc. Then in 5 years we will probably have the ame discussion. Every pre-season we laugh at our playing list 5 years ago and rave about the current one.

Who knows (and I hope not) but we may be laughing at Cuningham, Pickett, Kennedy, Setterfield, Silvagni, de Koning, Garlett, Jones, Kerr, Lang, Macreadie, SPS, Polson etc and saying how bad our list was back then.
