Name the others. I've forgotten...
Someones sensitive our medical team look pretty average.. Vardy getting most minutes on the park Mcarthy kicking 4 on debut for new club with full preseason - you either believe in a s**t load of luck or you question our player management. I think its a bit of both.

Thought so. Delusional to the fact ex players are producing at other clubs after being on our list for years.
Still waiting for the others who have kicked four goals on debut...
As for the ex-players, I always wish them well.
The fact that players are able to leave a club and play somewhere else seems to upset you.
Or is it just something you feel you can whinge about?
I know it's hard for you when Geelong wins a game, but keep your chin up.

He isn't suddenly less injured than during his last season at Geelong - he actually played 15 games during the 2016 season, just that 14 of them were at VFL level as he wasn't deemed to be part of the best 22 at AFL level.

When you look at his time at the Eagles it's actually a pretty similar situation. Yes he played 22 games in 2017 but the Eagles were without Naitanui & Lycett played only 1 match for the year. It was on Vardy & Petrie to carry the ruck load.

Last year Vardy returned to the injury room when he battled a groin injury during the early part of the season. When he finally made it back to the WAFL that's where he spent a couple of months before finally playing a senior game in round 16 - the only time he has played in the same side as Naitanui. He was dropped for round 17, Naitanui did his ACL that round so Vardy got a reprieve in round 18.

Vardy has provided value to the Eagles, but let's not pretend that he is suddenly totally injury free - injured his elbow in 2017 with intially fears is was going to be months in the sidelines, injured groin last year, so let's see what happens this year

Well at least you haven't read too much into R1.

Hopefully McCarthy has an injury free season. He almost did with us in 2016, but I think we'd all be happy to see him go that next step with Brissy. Nor does it reflect badly on our club doctors just because he gets a better run with them there.

It is a nonsense to suggest our club doctors are solely responsible for the injury management of a player. Linc Mcarthy would have been seen by literally dozens of specialists in different areas, none of which we keep on the payroll (as it would bankrupt the club).

I think the role of the ‘club doctor’ is probably to write referrals and scripts. I don’t think people have much of an idea how modern sports medicine works tbh.

Medical team was probably the incorrect term. More like the strength and conditioning people. The sport scientist witch doctors that are designing programs and managing loads. Not like the actual surgeons.

The sports docs diagnose, treat with medical management (e.g. anti inflams, cortisones, pain management) or non-medical management (e.g. load advice, return to sport advice, prescribe rehab exercises) and refer. You are right.

The day to day injury management is definitely more the responsibility of the physios and strength and conditioning team. Unfortunately for the doctors, lots of people shift blame to them straight away for chronically injured players.

Has anyone considered that perhaps the club did all the right things for Linc, but the injury he had was complicated and took longer than expected to get right? Or perhaps he was injury prone and they had to take time to get him right?

Obviously he was on track to play this year, otherwise he likely wouldn’t have played round 1.

Our management would have had a lot to do with his ability to play round 1 - the Brisbane medical team didn’t just turn around a complete mess of an injury or injury prone player in 5 months. You are kidding yourself if you think that.

West Coast won the flag because they had 12 home games during the regular season then were given 2 more in the finals. 14 games at home for a team who is really hard to beat there is a big leg-up. Imagine if we had the same deal in place.

Then they were lucky enough to get a team in the GF with no key position players of note at all which is their strength.

I’m pretty sure I remember McCarthy playing a full game at Geelong once without getting injured. He even looked good doing it if memory serves.

What he wasn’t able to do was repeat this for extended periods. Lets check back after 22 rounds to see if he has been “fixed” by the Brisbane medicos. For the record I hope he has a long run injury free.

Really happy for Linc, hope he can continue his form. Meanwhile Menzel is still out of action from his groin surgery after injuring it on his very first training session with the Swans, so no the club doesn't always get it wrong.

It isn't the clubs fault that McCarthy requested a trade to Brisbane to play alongside his best mate.
