This guy does what Jack Outback and others have failed to do in 500 pages of this thread. Defend and validate RJ's TLJ and explain why JJ's TFA was the real culprit. What a brilliant mind this guy has.

Giving Rian Johnson, the prick, too much of a free pass...

But makes a lot of good points as well; what an absolute cluster*.

They had the perfect trilogy in the Zahn Heir to the Empire trilogy (And Captain Marvel has just shown how good 'de-aging' tech is these days); and they went with this disconnected, disjointed abortion instead.

This is the issue in a nutshell; the problem isn’t that TLJ is a bad movie, it’s that some people think it goes against Star Wars ‘lore’. But they are choosing to include 30 years of discarded canon that most people aren’t familiar with in that lore. If you watch TLJ as a sequel to the OT and not as a replacement for the past 30 years of Star Wars stories, people might see that it’s a good film that is true to the three movies it’s following on from, even if it’s a bit jarring to see your hero in a different role.

It's following on from seven movies though.

And it still works. It only doesn’t work if you think of Luke as this incorruptible force for all that’s good as he was shown in the books.
Huh? He falls to the Dark Side.

This is why RJ's script sucks. He doesn't pay attention to details, because he values his ideas more than being consistent with the established universe. He forced his ideas in a franchise he didn't create and didn't ask himself whether they really make sense. For instance "Force ramming" makes no sense otherwise it would have been used as a weapon by both sides already. The "we losing fuel thus decelerating" thing that makes no sense in space (Momentum)... the impracticality of his "magnetic bombers" just because he liked the aesthetic...

omg, i joked about what rian johnson would've been like when shooting those controversial scenes in TLJ, that he'd be giggling like a school girl. Turns out it's actually true.

go to 1:49 in the video below....

You can tell Mark hated doing that scene.

Mark should have aimed the Aliens teet in Rians direction while he was laughing.

edit - Reckon Rian has a messed up fetish of squeezing milk from a teet
