Gardiner Andrews Birchall
Starcevich Adams Rich
McCluggage Neale Bailey
Zorko Hipwood McCarthy
Cameron Daniher McStay
McInerney Lyons Berry

I: Rayner Cockatoo Answerth Robinson

E: Ah Chee Witherden Coleman Payne Hinge Lester

* Adams probably will be injured so Payne in for him. Think our best set-up has Gardiner as third tall.
** I'd like to see Birchall get pushed out but expect he will play when fit. Ah Chee / Witherden (if he stays) should be trying to lock themselves in best 22
*** I wouldn't have Cockatoo in best 22, would have Ah Chee in the side for him, but like Birchall, expect if fit he will play
**** Emergencies in order of next in line.

agree with a lot of the defence analysis and Lester being a potential casualty for first 22 as Payne emerges and if Adams is fit. He had a really good year but think the 1 year deals should continue.

Looking at our list its obvious we are short a couple of genuine midfielders. Need Deven Robertson or Ely Smith to come on strongly next year. Potential with Cockatoo in the team on a wing for Mitch to become more of a supporting big bodied mid/tagger (instead of Ellis Yolman).

FB: Andrews Payne Gardiner
HB: Birchall Rich Starcevich
Mid: Cockatoo Lyons McLuggage
Fol: Big O Neale Berry
HF: Rayner Zorko Cameron
FF: Daniher McStay Hipwood
Int: Bailey McCarthy Ah Chee Robinson

Answerth and Coleman not in team as they're one position players - Ah Chee, Bailey can move around the field a bit more if needed. McCarthy would want to contribute more to keep Coleman out.
Mitch Robinson looking over his shoulder at the likes of Robertson and Smith.

Lester, Ellis Yolman, Adams, Witherden (if still there) and Answerth all decent experienced, hard bodies as cover.

Bit of a worry to only have Archie as back up in the ruck and Ballenden, Fullarton as very inexperienced key forwards.

Lots of untried kids in midfield need to push their case.

Birchall (obviously), Adams, Robinson, Lester, Ellis Yolman, Smith the main older names to watch re: not being offered contracts for 2022. And also a few kids who need to show something. (not sure of current contract situations)

Keidean Coleman isn't a 1 position player IMO, can play as a high hf/wing delivering the ball into F50, small forward and also played some good footy down back 2018/19 in the NEAFL.

HF Zorko Hipwood Cameron

This line up is super dynamic!

Birchall, Robinson, Lester and Adams will keep the younger guys honest. I'm hopeful Robertson, Ely Smith, Joyce and Tom Berry can start to really push for selection and overtake the likes of CEY and Matho on the depth chart. Hinge, Brock Smith and Prior will hopefully start to challenge Birchall as small defender depth. Fullarton ready to come in if an injury to one of our tall forwards.

Wow that is an aweful team.
But we were probably excited by it at the time.

Probably no real guarantee that both Lester and Robbo make the round 1 team next year either.

And very few players on that list will still be on an AFL list or best 22 come Round 1 next year.

Long term, he has the tools to be a class half back flanker. IMO.

Not many in there I'd take back in hindsight, Crisp, Docherty(with no injuries), Yeo, the rest are all depth at best in our current squad. If you went through every team that has contended for flags over the years all of them will have lost players of similar calibre.

Note- The 3 I would take back all were pre the Fagan/Noble/Swann regime.

By the way D12 welcome back.

For most of his career Henderson would’ve been handy but it seems he was always keen to get to Geelong.

This is my least experienced games played team
Excludes McFadyen (injured till about June) & anyone that is picked in the draft
Cox & Hinge included until resigned. Next in line if they go are Rayner and or Ah Chee both on 63 games
McInerney has the most games of 56
* = nil AFL games. All players with nil games are included
........

Answerth - Payne - Adams
Bailey - Prior* - Cockatoo

Starcevich - E.Smith* - K Coleman

Cox - Fullarton - CEY
T Berry - Ballenden - Joyce*

Foll: McInerney - Hinge - Robertson
I/C: A Smith - B Smith*- Madden* - Mathieson
