Lot of risk in moving positive people around.
Justify the statement please! Now it seems not cutting the virus from the hotel venue has caused a few infections to quarantine workers already. Something more innovative have to be done.
Also not allowing those workers to have a second job could not prevent them from moving around for other normal actovities.

Note: This is very similar to putting the infected and not infected people together in a cruise ship, except that the patient might have a slightly better attention in the hotel quarantine.

Imagine if they start shooting paper aeroplanes out the windows in protest.

That could cause a serious outbreak.

People are (very occasionally) getting sick by being on the same hotel floor as these people.

Removing someone from a hotel, driving them to a different hotel and then getting them to their room in that different hotel all require people to be in much closer proximity to the infected people. I'd argue they're much more likely to infect someone doing the above than they are currently.

How many known cases of health worker got infected due to helping patient to move to another location so far?( As compare to current hotel quarantine workers got infected ?)
Are seriously ill patients currently removed from hotel to hospital for further treatment and isolation? I dont think hotels have the facility to treat seriously ill covid patient.

I am sure there are ways to remove infected patients to another locations without too much risk. Of course purposely designed PPE and procedures need to be formulated, if not already done.

I thought I heard Qld were moving all confirmed positive cases to Hospitals to manage cases as they were better at infection control, although I could have my wires crossed.

As Ochre said the trade-off is the exposure risk of the number of people they will come into contact with along he way, although I'm sure this can be managed with a specialty patient transfer/ambulance service.

Interesting to see the further development of the evacuation of this quarintine hotel.
1. From one multi-storey hotel to another multi-storey hotel?
2. High risk in moving/evacution? (I guess Risk Magnitudes can be absolute and relative!)

Holiday Inn quarantine hotel to close as Victorian authorities investigate COVID-19 cases

It feels like momentum is gaining to have dedicated facilities for quarantine purposes. In his press conference today, Andrews talked about using army barracks or similar and have a FIFO situation where people would stay on-site and be in a controlled compound.

It probably won't go anywhere though because that needs help from the federal government and they sure as hell don't want to touch quarantine, despite it being their responsibility.

if that happens without another major incident but more minor incidents across the country then that's a good thing.

Yeah, apart from completely negligent mistakes in hotel quarantine, I think we have to expect that it is going to get out every now and then.

We just need to be able to ringfence it and see it off without having to lock down every the time. Fingers crossed, but this appears to be what we're doing in Melbourne. NSW, who were always pretty good at tracing, and Victoria (belatedly) now seem to have pretty solid ways to deal with outbreaks.

I genuinely don't know whether the other states have that way of operating ingrained because they have not had to face into regular outbreaks for a variety of reasons. It is difficult to scale up for something which may never happen and when you also need it to go smoothly that one and (hopefully) only time, so that is absolutely not a criticism.

If you had of told me in March 2020 that the situation be that we went to a form of quarantine for international arrivals I would have believed you.

If you told me we would do it through CBD hotels until a period of time AFTER vaccinations were approved and begun being rolled out across the world, and then decided to pivot from hotels to something else I would have told you that you were dreaming, but here we are.

Either way hopefully they can find a way to upscale the number of returnees ASAP

Your final line is the critical one- upscale. Must get the circa 40k stuck Aussies back ASAP.

Then start on getting the partner visa holders back. Remember, many of the Australian Citizen sponsors are highly educated, professional Australians who ventured overseas and grew their career. They now want to return with their partners to contribute to Australia with little support needed.

Many are financially strong, with desirable work experiences across the world.

I know because I am one of them!

I have always believed my country built on mateship would never leave a mate behind.

Another failure in Victoria. Obviously the Andrews government is responsible however it is time for Scott Morrison to grow a set and take control.

No more hotel quarantine, take control in federally controlled facilities, it is time to make our cities safe and bring our fellow Australians home. At the moment we are accomplishing neither.

He wants no responsibility and is happy for the state premiers to squabble amongst themselves and look bad if their decision doesn't come off. Scomo has it good sitting around doing nothing while the premiers do the heavy lifting.
