I've read somewhere that China had the largest population of English speakers or something? Obviously that'd be their second language and I don't know how legit that is

I doubt enough (ie 300+ million) would do so to be more than the United States.

India would be the most likely if there was a contender.

French farmer could theoretically face criminal charges for moving 200-year-old marker

The boundary between France and Belgium is believed to have been inadvertently redrawn by a farmer who found the 200-year-old border stone marking the divide in an inconvenient location for his tractor.

The French farmer could theoretically face criminal charges after making Belgium bigger by moving the stone that has marked the border since after the defeat of Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo.

Was thinking about how many countries are on two or more continents as I was reading up on French Guinea which is considered an overseas department (equivalent to a state or province) rather than an overseas territory, making it part of actual France. Whereas although Bermuda for example is an overseas territory of the UK, you wouldn’t say it is part of the UK. I’m pretty sure Reunion is the same deal which means France is technically in Europe, South America and Africa.

Anyway I think this is the list depending on your definition of where continents start and end:

France - Europe, South America, Africa - overseas departments

Turkey - Europe, Asia - either side of the Bosphorus Strait

Russia - Europe, Asia - either side of the Urals

Egypt - Africa, Asia - Sinai peninsula in Asia

Indonesia - Asia, Oceania - state of Irian Jaya is on New Guinea which is in Oceania

Panama - North America, South America - Panama Canal literally splits the two continents

There’s also a few countries where it’s debatable what continent they’re even in, mainly the blur between Europe and Asia, which really is just one continent. Cyprus is geopolitically European and every other major island in the Mediterranean is European but it’s location makes lean towards Asia. And then there’s obviously the Caucasian countries who are also European in a geopolitical sense but AFAIK they aren’t far west enough to be considered part of the European landmass.

Oh yeah, forgot about the Spanish possessions in Africa and the Azores for Portugal. I’d need to double check if they’re just overseas territories though, coz I know Gibraltar and the Falklands are.
