Key Off-Season Dates

It has an index at the top with threadmarks so it's easy to find what you're looking for – or easier than scrolling through 250 pages of AFL Rules, Regulations and CBA pdfs anyway.

These sorts of questions are all answered along with a bunch of other resources made by posters from across BigFooty (feel free to add to it!):

The media were running with Ward was out of contract, while Davis was signed, for a while this year. They seem to struggle outside the fishbowl.
The two biggest stories they talk about this year have been Toby's antics and Cog's injury issues. Don't hear much about how much of a success this year was considering the circumstances this team was put in to keep the season alive.

It’s been on our and a few other draft boards. The rumour was you said no to our pick 20 this year and our first next year, for 2 this year and your second rounder next year.

So if it went ahead I assume you wouldn’t be adding the second rounder next year.
We'd be idiots to do that trade. Rightly said no.

Thoughts on the rumours that North are trying to get pick 2 for our 2022 first and pick 20 this year?
Interesting offer.
It is certainly a fair trade.
I guess whether we took it would depend on what we thought of Callahan ( or whoever else they may take with 2)
I d like to see us just take 2.

It’s not fair at all, it’s fricken daft.

We have Pick 2 now, it’s definite. North could easily rise next year, they have a good coach and some good young talent. Why give up a definite Pick 2 for a possible Pick 1-6 and a Pick 23??

No thanks.

It is pick 2, but will be by luck of the draw, pick 4.
It is more than likely that North will be in the bottom 4 next year, you get the premium of 20 as payment for the risk they rise.
They're is a reasonable chance it is 1 or 2 next year.

We got one over with the Pies thinking they knew the future.
Would hate for us to screw it up thinking we can do the same.

Yes, I wouldn't mind trying Flynn at centre bounces, then moves into the F50 to play forward. Briggs comes on to ruck around the grounds.

Notwithstanding Zach Sproule's good play in the latter part of season 2021, using Flynn in that manner, plus Hogan as another contested marking forward, then HH (or Zach or ToJ - which is probably why ToJ is expendable) as the roaming KPF gives us as good a set-up as we'll get with who we've got on the list.
As a matter of interest, will Finn Callaghan play forward next year ( as a medium forward, maybe like Bailey Fritsch).

I wouldn’t trade pick two

I’d keep it and get best available. We aren’t a destination club that’s gets mature talent coming in

We are a club that uses top end talent to develop good players. Even if those players don’t play for us we often get reasonable returns and keep the players we want

Take the pick

Probably depends on how ready he is when he arrives. His development has been heavily disrupted these last two years, but if he does debut, I would expect a high half forward or medium forward role. He probably needs to work on defence. It would probably need some injuries to get a wing or midfield role. Or a brilliant early showing!

I’d want two top 10 picks for pick 2 ... so north’s 2022 first and pick 8-10 this year

Only if you have a massive appetite for risk. There is always a premium applied for taking on risk, but pick 20 is not a great premium given we're talking about losing the second pick in the draft and gambling on what we'd get back.

It could just as easily be pick 8 to 10 next year. Would that still be fair? It seems like you're allocated a top two or three value to North's 2022 pick when there's zero guarantee that'll be the case.

100% what dlanod said. That swap would be a big risk for us.

GWS took little risk with the pick swap with Collingwood (a #24 & a #30 for even a #18 would have been OK given our hand last year, but we were betting more likely to be #8-12). Collingwood took all the risk, betting that their pick would be later rather than earlier, and reap instantaneous value from getting two guys for a year longer.

Such a swap with North could work, if they finished last to third last, with better options available. But wouldn't work for us outside that. Ask Norths the same question - would they swap their pick for what they've offered (or slightly more) - the answer with be 'no' preceded by several epithets.

If GWS were to trade pick #2 (and I'm not an advocate), it would need to be something like Hawks this year and next first rounders, plus one of their second rounders, to ensure we came out on the best side of the deal. They know what they're getting with pick #2 - we don't know what we're getting next year. Or perhaps their pick #5 plus #21 & #24 this year. (That would still get GWS a Gibcus, Amiss, Andrew or Rachele - all useful additions to our squad), plus pay for Fahey and get someone in the second round.)

But I'd just prefer to keep #2 and get Callaghan. If we want to get creative, use #13 for that.

I'd trade Pick 2 for Tarryn Thomas and a future first if they're willing 🥰 🎉

Would GWS be more inclined to trade down this year than risk taking a punt on North rising. Would Hawks pick 5 and a very early second for pick 5 be a better offer than Norths offer ? (pick 5 and 20 (as it stands) for pick 2 ? If you like Gibcus he'd still be there for you to take.
GWS would have to be drunk to take Norths offer in my view. With a good run with injuries they'll push for the top 8 if a few teams slide.
