  • In Adelaide, the FTA average was 76,000 - 88,000 for matches featuring Power/Crows and 66,000 for other matches.
  • In Brisbane, the average FTA ratings was 35,000 - 47,000 for matches with the Lions/Suns and 28,000 for matches without either.
  • In Melbourne, the average FTA rating was 273,000. 275,000 for matches featuring Melbourne sides, and 129,000 for the only game that didnt.
  • In Perth, the average FTA rating was 86,000 - 109,000 for matches involving the Eagles/Dockers and 69,000 for matches without either.
  • In Sydney, the FTA average was 34,000 - matches involving the Swans/Giants averaged 47,000, while matches without averaged 25,000.
  • In the regional Tasmanian market, matches average 40,000 on FTA - but this is based on published data from just 26 matches, with about 2/3rds of matches outside the Regional top 20 list, so the actual average will be much lower

The spin doctors from the NRL have already started....
They can spin it which way they like but the massive AFL figures tell the truth and they would be sorry that Melbourne Storm are not there this year as that will impact the Melbourne figures on CH9

Indeed it is.Some spin doctors make Joseph Goebbles look small time. and that why i ask people to post links when they make a statement to back up their claims from a independent source

In 2011 the NRL had their Grand Final at 5 or 5.30pm, maybe 2010 as well? Best time slot IMO out of all the GFs I have watched over both codes. The Channel 9 boss cracked the sads and it went back to 7.30pm.

Interestingly the AFL GF had a bigger crowd than the combined total for the two NRL PFs at Suncorp Stadium in a supposed hardcore RL state!

Not surprised at all. It really isn't the hardcore RL state that they try and sell it as, it's just the main sport that casuals watch. The passion for the game is so different compared to AFL. Going to the Broncos is more of a social thing over a tribal event like going to the AFL.

Pointless stat for today - a list of all years in which the Grand Final wasn't the highest crowd for the year:

* 2 other games also outdrew the GF in 1927. The GF was played in flooded conditions and was the lowest scoring ever - Collingwood won kicking only 2 goals.

20,000 tickets sold so far for this weekends WAFL grand final.

Having the popular South Fremantle there going for back to back flags helps with the numbers.

But unfortunately the lowly supported Subiaco is there again.

Since 2003 only the 2013 GF hasn’t involved Subiaco or Claremont (the other lowly supported team). And that 2013 GF crowd was impacted by the fact that the day before Freo qualified for the AFL grand final for the first time. But even so, it was still the largest crowd until 2018 when the WAFL GF was moved to Optus Stadium.

I can’t wait until we get a GF without either of them, we will probably get over 30,000.

Don't a lot of them watch through kayo these days? I did hear the nrl grand final is struggling to sell out as usual. Not sure if that's correct or not the stadium only holds 50k in a so called league heartland. Tickets are only $50 or so too. Again not sure if that's correct.

Almost 4 million average last night
Well the AFL seems to think it did cross the 4 million mark.
The AFL is pleased to announce last night's 2021 Toyota AFL Grand Final between Melbourne Demons and Western Bulldogs attracted a national average audience of 4.11m.

I think there was a graphic on the tv saying today’s WAFL grand final had a crowd in the 29,000’s.

But I didn’t get it exactly as I was plastering a wall at the time.

With the first half, severely affected by rain.

Edit: 29,879. Largest since 2002.

That is impressive! It will be interesting to see how many the SANFL gets today
