"Liam Jones' return to the AFL, and the Western Bulldogs, could also be sealed on Monday with paperwork in line to be lodged for the Dogs to sign him under free agency. The former Blue's comeback to the AFL after quitting due to his COVID-19 vaccination stance ahead of the 2022 season will see Carlton get a free agency compensation pick, which could be a third-round selection."

"The Blues are expected to offer a future third-round selection in a trade for Fremantle wingman Blake Acres, which could be one of the first trades completed on Monday."

Are we expecting the Blake Acres trade to happen as early as tomorrow?

'Blake Acres will be traded to Carlton for a future third-round pick tomorrow, per Jon Ralph.'

Very good trade for Blake Acres, since it’s for a future-third round pick, that would mean we are using our Liam Jones compo at the draft.

I understand that I just went full Tom Browne.

Gee I tell ya what Austin has brought some handy players in

Just to name a few

2020
Saad (AA)
Williams (not worth the money but can still be a good player for us)

2021
Cerra (gonna be a 200 gamer)
Hewett (what a surprise packet)
Young (i believe can be future AA)
Motlop (solid 30 goal a season player)

2022
Acres (how the hell are we getting him for a future 3rd!)
Our top 10 pick

Superb stuff Austin.

Also Durdin & Carroll at 37 and 41. He is killing it.

So the newest Bowes sweetener is that that team that gets him will be allowed to spread his remaining salary over 4 years. It's a hell of a leg up for whoever he chooses.

Port going hard this trade period, obviously think they’re right in their window. Wow. I’m not surprised though, JHF hasn’t seemed settled at all this year from the outside looking in. Yet still had a solid first year. Would say Pickett is off the table if this is a chance.

And to think NM could have taken picks 4 last year, pick 5 this year and Melbourne's first this year (I think 16) from Adelaide for pick 1

Would think that would be a greater haul then what they will now get offered...

Fairly normal progress for a rising team. Everyone that comes has stated that they can see what we are building, and frankly I'd be disappointed in we weren't attracting this sort of player.

Saad for Pick 8 felt a little overs considering what Essendon paid for him to get him from Gold Coast. He has lived up to the trade this year, but we aren't picking for one year. Remember it is #8 for 5-6 years of Saad vs #8 vs a possible 14 years of a top 10 draftee. Risks had to be taken however so this was worthwhile.

Williams was a complete misread. We expected he could become a midfielder and he just wouldn't work there. Yes, he can help us achieve success as a running small defender but his salary is too much for the role he is playing, and he is a little injury prone. So far, we'd have to call this call a fail.

Cerra was good at times this year but I don't think he lived up to the #6 draft pick and future pick downgrade we paid for him. First year settler hopefully, but not sure his point of difference improved us as much as we had hoped. Jury still out on whether we got value for money here, but lots of time left as he was the perfect age.

Hewett was just good business. Hard and versatile and undervalued by his own club. Didn't cost any draft currency and salary is not huge. Massive tick.

Young was a good pickup. Cheap as chips and still young. All the time in the world to develop into a gun. Even if he doesn't, it was still good business.

Acres will be another good deal for a 3rd rounder. Thought we may have to pay a 2nd.

Austin isn't responsible for us earning a top 10 pick, and we can't yet credit him for a player we haven't selected.

He has done well though. Williams is the only contract that is hurting us from the Austin trades at the moment.
