Again, can’t say it was a trial game in the first half and not credit the good work that was done by the midfield, but then bash them for the 2nd half. You can both credit them for a good first half performance and a poor 2nd. We made it hard for the Giants to get easy ball inside 50 in the first half, which comes from good midfield pressure. Our transition from D50 to F50 was also very good in that first half.

Yes, the Giants responded very well after half time and we didn’t have a lot of answers, but a lack of pressure in the 2nd half doesn’t excuse some bad misses earlier in the game which cost us dearly. Lead by 8 goals plus at half time and the game is done, it’s why this loss is even more infuriating. The Giants were always going to respond at some stage, we just needed to have done the damage on the scoreboard by then, which was in our control. Rankine and Tex, both normally great in front of goal, were both poor with their conversion today.
I don’t think we can take all the credit for how poorly they started. We saw what happened when shit got real.

Would Goodwin ever come back and caoch us?

Last night watching game live at ground they look so structured and well coached...

Nicks really went back a few steps today
He’d want a lot of gambling money to be tempted

You know that you can get picks/upgrade picks from other sources than your own draft picks?
No sh1t, and exactly what club was going to do that?

My take on the picks taken before Phillipou were already commited too by the clubs that took them..

Only way the Saints don't take Phillipou is if Cam McKenzie was still there...

And we did try but there were no takers btw.

It made sense from the perspective of allowing everyone else to get a full game in.

Unfortunately we had to use the sub
I knew exactly what you meant. Just funny saying "bizarre" and "makes sense' about the same decision. :)

Nah, we only employ rookie headcoaches since Ayers. If you've been a head coach at another team, the Crows aren't interested.

A premiership winning coach, no thanks - Crows front of house.

Crows prefer coaches that can learn on the job which provides cover for the lack of success every few years where they can explain away the shitfull performances because hey, the coach is new and learning.

Nicks had to get keays and Dawson into mid when the mids were gassed and getting thumped

The heat was a massive factor and needed some different thinking to a regular game

Bit of Neil Craig about his game day coaching today but not the good Neil Craig

It’s not all negative though but it hurts
A lot went right in the first half so I understand a reluctance to change too much, but by the last quarter more had to be done to get momentum back. Anyway, kick straight and we aren’t having many of these discussions, it’s why this loss stings more.

Silver lining is that despite many of our senior players being down, it was a game we were in until the last couple of minutes. The <25 years olds are driving this team now.

'' Ok boys its gonna be hot on Sundie whats the plan - Burgo Burgo any input? ''

Burgo- ' water lots of water - and rotations through the game - hit your maximum interchanges , extra players through the midfield - we have 23 elite midfielders - stack em up'

'' yeah ok alright ok - so VB , VB - VEEBEEEE! yeah mate you hear that - I reckon we run the kids early see what they got and when we need cooler heads we run Keysie and Sloaney and Wayno and maybe Brownie to change it up - waddya reckon''

' yeah coach yeah'

Now we have to play Richmond on Saturday after being baked in that heat.

Tyler Brown as Sub??? he was putrid. Even Chayce Jones.... JONES would have been better IMO than that.

Burgess sounding like another Fraud as we showed nothing special at all in the fitness department.

Burgess isn’t a coach, he just gets them fit. Our issue is quality and that our ‘leaders’ let us down consistently. And the bigger issue is that these leaders have gold passes, they’re not subject to being dropped.

Wat!

Roo's best mate, geez the melts that would follow on this board.

That is absolute bs, ‘shit gets real’ as soon as the first ball is bounced. So basically, first half doesn’t matter as Giants were crap and Crows were good, but 2nd half matters because Crows were crap and Giants were good?

Not sure we should have cared all that much. Rankine was out of contract
There is no point re-litigating this.

We don't know what the club needed to promise Rankine's management in order to get him to commit. I'm sure "we can get the deal done" was top of the list, though. Not "we only wanted him if he was cheap".

I think you understand by now that rehashing old debates over and over is a prerequisite to Chief allowing people to post on this site?

I’m not the one who brought up the point, it should be easy for the rest of you to list given how often it is brought up as fact on this board
You said it’s a long way from the poorest.
I’m struggling to think of many worse currently.

Ugly…

Mcadam…

You just know after the AFL turning a blind eye to the head high hits of buddy franklin, cotchin and the like that the AFL will have been waiting for just this moment… an Adelaide player to make a “were here to protect the head” statement with…

And mcadam didnt even make contact with the head. It was a shoulder on body bump.. yes it was crude but look at the replay.. he didnt contact the head.

He’ll get 4 weeks you watch.
I LOVED the McAdam shirtfront. T-boned the bloke who was set up to do so. No head-high contact, compared to the Pickett hit where he jumped off the ground to take the player's head.

Have they really outlawed the hip-and-shoulder bump?

For the most part, yeah. Not hard to tell when a side doesn’t turn up.

looking at it, we were fitter than gws. how many blokes did they have cramping up at the end? this was desire. gws were willing to suffer for the win, we weren't. they couldn't run and moved the ball quicker than us cos they wanted it more, much more

Our leaders couldn’t give a crap about whether we win or lose. Footy is just a pay cheque for the Sloanes and Smiths. There is no hunger or will to win. But we’re a club that values poor performance if you’re experienced, so it’s not like we go out of our way to keep senior players honest.
