None of them ( the Academy kids) are likely to have an impact until at least their second year.
Maybe right, but if the academy is worth having, why is it taking these kids 12 months to be ready. 12 games maybe to adjust to the speed of the game but the academy should be preparing these kids to be ready to roll day 1.

If not the academy needs to amend whatbits doing.

We know more about academy than any other 17 teams.

We must rate this years academy crop and genuinely want to match the bids.

We must also think there is a chance that McCarthy is comming here next year at pick 15-ish….

If all that happens and we finish top 4 in 26/27 this is a steal!

Serong may be the money ball pick of the trade period. Completely different players and positions, but reminds me of J Kennedy who we picked up for a bag of chips because he was behind Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis etc. Serong has been behind Battle, Sicily, Barass.. all AA quality key defenders. Hawks supporters rate him massively.
Also behind Frost & Jiath.

It'd be nice to get some silver lining after reaming the team but I can't see us making the eight under the current coach/management. We've gone all out for a key forward, yet we already have two fresh key forwards coming in this year and we've just let another go. Curnow's not much of an upgrade on Hayward.

Charlie doesn't chase or tackle much. Hayward was our best tackler inside 50. Hayward and Ollie's departure has cost us both speed and tackling.

My eyes hurt reading this

Looking at other trades,
  • LOL at Essendon turning that offer down. Don't mind a club taking a stand on some of this stuff, but not sure them in that situation were the club to do it.
  • Hawthorn only loses, no ins, good. Glad Geelong missed Marshal too.
  • I'll be very disappointing in all and any clubs that let Ah Chee slip to Adelaide. **** if he's there and we're genuinely committed to being as ruthless as possible, somehow find the cap space and the list spot - (know we won't, but **** we should). If WC are serious about turning the wheel they should give no ****s and draft him though.
  • Not sure any club significantly improved their list, Brisbane maybe although some very good outs. St Kilda probably yes, but it's a list that looks set to peak at about 6th. Some other clubs made improvements sure but don't know if they took leaps forward in net gain.
  • There's quite a few clubs that really should've been more active than they were.

There's no practice that can prepare a young player for the brutality and physical demands of a real game

Pretty sure the MAIN job of a forward is to kick goals, so if you think a Coleman medallist isn't an upgrade on someone who tackles well, then I'm not sure what you are hoping for.

I think this is the first season in a LONG time Geelong have not improved their playing list in a off-season.

GC might be insane with Trac/Hawks didnt improve and lost some depth players i doubt Gunston will kick 60+ again.

Saints who knows what happens when you just mesh 7 players together who have not played together.

Essendon not trading Merrett has to be one of the dumbest things ive seen in the last decade.

I feel Carlton and Saints just refused to trade with Geelong i thought they would of taken the Curnow offer.

I admire your confidence.... and I bet you said that last year too

Well I hope our coach has learnt his lesson and at least we can’t play Francis this time

The most ironic thing is if blues come bottom 4 and cats come mid table and we come top 4….

The cats offer is probably better if Hayward doesn’t play well…

Geelong traded a player they delisted? I know it's only for a pick 99 so hardly a scandal or anything to be angry about...but wtf, since when is this actual thing? Or has it always been? Surely once you delisted a guy surely you can't involve them in trades, not that anyone would usually want to trade for a delisted player I guess.

Essendon made the right call that deal was rubbish. It wasn’t 3 first rounders straight anyway they wanted a second back which is basically just a 5-6 position pick slide. So you recon two firsts is enough? Not for me. The Petracca deal had to be the blueprint to Essendon even talking there

Cats the biggest losers going next year with Stanley and co in the ruck. Can’t believe they didn’t just do the two firsts who cares if it’s an overpay

Didn’t that happen to someone who retired as well and then came back from retirement?

Yeah clubs that try to win trade period often don’t win on the field
