Jeff's Shed is already named after him.

You're not salty that Andrews got the statue and Jeff didn't because of Jeff's own rules are you?
Two terms: Andrews gets a statue (eventually). In terms of consequence Bracks and Kennett should also have them, but the rules are the rules.

Jeff's Shed is colloquially named after him. It's not like the Joan Kirner Hospital.

There will be an uproar when the first thing is named after Kennett after he passes away. And then it'll be every one into their trenches.

Domain was hardly the attempt at humour Boaty McBoatface was.

The alternative is always not to ask the public at all. Domain was a perfectly fine name for the station, and the vote reflected what people associated with the location.

It was really just an attempt to draw the public's attention to the project and the stations. Shock horror, they don't really give a stuff about what the public thinks the names should be; they just want the public talking about the stations.

The "most popular" choices got around 5-6% of the total vote (at best), so let's not go too crazy with the result denying the will of the people through a gross miscarriage of justice.

It was an engagement campaign and a bit of fun with a sort of competition as an afterthought.

There would be a lot more money for hospitals and education if the state wasn't weighed down with interest payment on the large debt accrued during ALP state governance.
Debt is at 25% of GSP and predicted to stay that way.

Baillieu and Napthine increased that share, Andrews brought it down before the big infra spending began which coincided with COVID.....

Or Hamer Hall, Bolte Bridge, John Cain Arena etc.
Actual official names. Jeff's Shed is officially the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

And for Hamer and Cain, the buildings were personally associated with their premierships.

I have no problem with any of it. I would welcome the Kennett Exhibition Centre (although he probably wouldn't because he's the guy who renamed Flinders Park so people knew it was in Melbourne). Whatever eventually gets named after him, there will be a cohort who will go crazy. Same with Andrews. I will not be going crazy at either.

They were all built long after the person was gone. Not built by the person.

Jeff's Shed cost the equivalent of $270million.
I don't actually have an issue with naming something after Jeff in the future.

But what sort of thing could get named after him without it seeming hypocritical? He's not known as a patron of the arts like Hamer. Naming things like schools, parks or rail infrastructure doesn't seem a good fit. Maybe something to do with mental health or Football?

Jeff's associated with city link maybe one of the tunnels? Kennett Melbourne Exhibition Centre might work? Rename the King St Bridge?

Honestly I thing they should remove the Kennet rule and just give all of the former Premiers Statues even Baillieu and Naptime.

Letting the public name anything is fraught with danger.

We need to follow the same logic as naming a swimming pool after a drowned PM. It is the Australian way after all

doubt dan gives a fig about a statue, tp. it was kennett wanting to celebrate himself that was the antecedent. the other statutes were of necessity to justify his.

Kennett is a member of the Liberal Party, so I guess you have to assume the worst of his motives.

Andrews on the other hand is all sweetness and light.

I think its a fair assessment Kennett did the statue thing for vanity and ego reasons

Jacinta Allan might actually lose the next election. Jess Wilson actually seems half sane

Peter Dutton was looking like a certainty too until he actually had to get out of his safe places and convince people to swing to him.

Jess Wilson has to win 16 seats and there's currently hardly any marginal Labor seats that are contests with the Libs. In other words, at this stage, looking at the seats Labor's most likely to lose, not many are potential Lib gains.

It's going to take something extraordinary.

Let's get out the sheet music and play the real waltz. But first...

I'm going to stipulate that 51-49 LNP 2PP doesn't get them to a victory (it could if the swing is really, really patchy).

But the 51-49 2PP that we currently have showing in pretty much all the polls, on a uniform basis, moves the LNP near the area where the gains are.

Bass, Pakenham, Hastings, Ripon, Glen Waverley, Bayswater, Yan Yean, Melton. They all need less than 5%, with four of those with retiring members (Bass, Pakenham, Bayswater, Melton). If they were to lose some of the four seats they hold by that same margin or less against the Greens, Labor would find themselves in minority.

The issue is Labor have 8 more seats between 6 and 8 percent (one held by a disgraced former Labor MP), and 51-49 represents a 6% swing. And 8 more held by between 8% and 9%. And six more by between 9 and 10% (with another former Labor MP in one of those seats).

So you could see how some patchy swings on a overall 6% swing basis could start grabbing at those seats in the 6-10% range (which are 22 in number). All of Labor's margin is in that 6-10% range, and the current polling shows a 6% swing.

It doesn't need to get much worse for Labor to be in trouble.

I'm not making any predictions. I know how well oiled the Labor machine is and getting re elected is one of their specialities. That said, it has been 33 years since I have heard anti Labor sentiment as strong as it currently is. And I'm not talking about LNP voters but traditional Labor voters.

I heard one person say whenever he drives over a pothole his immediate thought is to blame Jacinta Allen. This person is a delivery driver for a smallgoods company and is a Union member.

I know such sentiments won't necessarily translate to a Labor loss. A lot can happen in 12 months. I'm sure Jess Wilson is well aware of this too.

you know way more about the libs than me. but not jeffrey, tp. i can go back to his scotch college days and how he acquired the then electorate of camberwell from wilcox. and he was the one who pushed for the statues. and while i think dan was a plus generally, he was not flawless. no pollies are. perhaps don't write this nonsense. you're better than that.

Kennett was the Member for Burwood and won his preselection over Haddon Storey (who would serve in Kennett's Government).

From the Economou book.

I just recoil from Kennett-bashing from those who tend to glorify someone like Keating, when Kennett in public life appears to be someone a lot less interested in ensuring someone is losing while he is winning compared to Keating, but otherwise were very similar stylistically and of similar consequence (considering the context of their respective work). Andrews is a lot closer to Keating in the winners/losers regard. The main difference between Andrews and Kennett is Kennett was not a good retail politician.

They've had full control of the state for a long long time and its a complete mess with the highest tax's in the country.

But again Victorian's froth it so they'll probably win.

Wilson has a monumental task to form government, but also a bigger challenge to hold terms. Vics have become used to seeing shiny new projects which have led to this debt. Feel like the good economic manager argument will run thin if voters continue to sit in traffic, pt system breaks down etc. This happened/ happens under Labor, but its going to be easy for them to point to what they have done to action this

Debt is good when you have something to show for it.

Land taxes are working also to make homes more affordable.
