Nah - he's an 'inspiration' according to his lawyer..fmd Screenshot 2025-12-03 at 11.59.10 am.png
Bruce Lehrmann’s lawyer Zali Burrows talks to the media at the federal court of Australia in Sydney on Wednesday.

"I’d just like to say that I hope Bruce is seen as an inspiration to those who say they’ve been wrongly accused, because he will be seeking advice on special leave [to appeal to the high court] in his pursuit for justice."

The coalition brand must be concerned. The had just got rid of the embarrassment called Barnaby ( will we ever know whether the rumours are true?) but Brucie boy as a Liberal party member working in a Cabinet Minister's office keeps on bringing into the public domain an alleged (and civilly adjudicated) rape.

All the cuts and pastes from right wing apologists are not going to remove from people"s memories that in the highest and most secure office in the land, an alleged rape occured

Julie Bishop made the comment about the "big swinging dicks" coterie inhabiting the senior levels of the Coalition.

Was Brucie just an extension of that mind set?

Maybe the voting intentions of women voters indicates that women are passing their judgement on the party as whole

C'mon! That's unfair.

Who cannot forget the outgoing Senator for WA Linda Reynolds who on top of her own website proudly proclaims this:

"Senator Reynolds is a passionate champion for gender equality and female empowerment in politics and in society more generally."

As a former senator and Minister for Defence Industry in the Morrison Government, Linda Reynolds has been tireless in standing up for women and the victims of sexual assault, including in the Parliamentary workplace!

And to make it even worse for the Conservative/Coalition parties brands, Lehrmann's victim was not a leftie.
Higgins at the time of the rape, was both a Liberal Party supporter for many of her adult years, and was full-time working for them and with Bruce in Parliament House.

A WA Court determined this statement was correct or at least not incorrect.

Personally I think taking Higgins to court over her statements did far more damage to Reynolds reputation than the statements did.

Because nothing says a person of power is a passionate champion for the rights of women more than taking one of her junior staffers, a victim of a predatory sexual assault after hours in your office by another of your staffers, to civil court and bankrupting them for words said on social media (albeit clearly defamatory, hurtful and based on wrong assumptions seared with anger at what had happened to her).

And then after her court success Reynolds chose to continue — aided and abetted by her friends in the media — a disgraceful public re-litigation of an already sorry affair in which party politics was always a key player.

'At every turn, Reynolds said she had no choice but to litigate. She is, of course, the victim. It could end tomorrow, she said, but only if she gets what she wants - not just from the sexual assault victim, Ms Higgins, but from the Labor Government. “If the Labor government, in particular the Attorney-General, says to her department: ‘Enough, we got it wrong. We are sorry, we will make it right.’ ”

Again, it’s not clear what Reynolds means by “wrong” or “right" here. And there is no doubt that this saga has scarred her too - not just her reputation but her sense of perspective.

But yes, she is a 'champion of female empowerment' - starting and ending with her self imo.

If I'd been the WA Court I probably would have determined at as a high ranking federal politician she had no good reputation to damage so she'd win the case but get no compensation.

100% the tweets came and went and it wasn't until Reynolds blew it all up that it seemed to really get out there. It's clear as day she's after $$$.

No no, they are fine, it's us the people who are out of touch.

I think it wasn't $$$ as much as revenge. Which makes Reynolds actions so much worse.

After all, Reynolds mortgaged one of her houses and supposedly spent more than $1m on her defamation trial and in the end was only awarded 80% of her costs plus $315,000 in damages plus $26,000 in interest.

She might come out of this about even financially but has destroyed the life her former employee was looking to live to get away from the horrors of her sexual assault in Reynolds office. That seems to have been all that Reynolds wanted.

How fecked is that?

Hope so.

With Bruce Lehrmann & the Mountain River case, the magistrate requires himself & lawyer Zali Burrows in Hobart court December 4 (tomorrow). A medical certificate is required for failure to attend court November 6. A suspended warrant exists.

I wonder what the excuse will be tomorrow?

Pleaded guilty to driving a car without consent.

No conviction, 12 month good behaviour bond.

No arrest for not turning up (twice) because he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

w***er.

Bruce Lehrmann has avoided a conviction for taking a drunken joyride in someone else's Toyota Prado after his car keys were taken off him. But Lehrmann - who was previously threatened with arrest if he did not turn up - lost a number of bids to avoid media reporting on the matter which was concluded in Hobart Magistrates Court on Thursday. After failing to have his court attendance excused on mental health grounds, Lehrmann accepted a charge of taking and driving a car without consent and was handed a $100 fine to pay within 28 days. "I hope everyone gets out of bed tomorrow, gets the help they need and keeps fighting," Lehrmann told reporters outside court after the hearing. The disgraced political staffer and his lawyer Zali Burrows were ticked off by magistrate Robert Webster for failing to appear on the matter in November, with Lehrmann even threatened with arrest. On Thursday, Ms Burrows made representations that Lehrmann was unable to appear because of his mental health. She asked whether Lehrmann could be sneaked in through a back door, or whether a blanket restraining order could be issued on journalists to prevent him being confronted at court. "We don't do that for anybody," Mr Webster said. Ms Burrows forwarded doctor's certificates and told the court Lehrmann had a mental health screening appointment at 2pm on Thursday, but Mr Webster urged him to attend court. "There is nothing before me that excuses his attendance today. Nothing," he said. Prior to proceedings, Ms Burrows asked waiting journalists for compassionate coverage, saying her client was "not in a good way". Thursday's hearing was a Tasmania-specific hearing known as a contest mention, where both parties speak frankly about facts and arguments, allowing the court to find a pathway forward. Prosecutor Bunewat Keo advised a previous charge of car theft had been downgraded to driving a car without consent. The court heard in November 2024, Lehrmann was partying at a house in Mountain River, outside Hobart, when his host took his car keys in an attempt to stop him driving. Lehrmann instead took a nearby car, with keys in the ignition, driving to Huonville Mood Food where he bought a drink and filled the car up with fuel. The car was returned undamaged, but the owners complained to police. Mr Webster indicated he would offer Lehrmann, should he change his plea, avoidance of conviction on the condition of 12 months' good behaviour. The offer was extended given Lehrmann's lack of criminal record. With the 30-year-old not in court, Ms Burrows stepped out of court several times to discuss the matter with her client, before accepting the punishment. Lehrmann then arrived at court to sign his agreement, which left him only with a $100.22 fine to pay within 28 days.

The rate he's going, he'll never ****ing get one.

He goes for a joy ride , probably pissed and gets $100 fine!!!

Appeal dismissed. Bye Bruce!
It was a bit more than just dismissed actually.

The appeals judge concluded that the original judgement had not been worded strongly enough about the fact that Bruce had known that he was acting without consent. The appeal decision upgraded the wording accordingly.

Today's editorial in the Saturday paper:

Bruce Lehrmann is a liar. For years now, he has lied about the night he r*ped Brittany Higgins. He has made a small industry from this lie. He has sold it to television networks, in exchange for cocaine and sex. He has laundered it in the Murdoch press, where he has been invited to mock his victim and her husband.

Some on the right have tried to make a bloated hero of him....
