God dammit, The annual shitshow has now arrived.

Champion would be a clear replacement for Newton. I’m gonna assume Duggan gets up to play. Yeo out, McCrae in? Not sure what form is like for mids but he or Clay Hall I’d assume would be next up.

I will state the obvious but unpopular point and have all the usual psychos on here going berserk and stalking me for it.

Starcevich's injury is clearly not a calf. They have put him at a further 8 weeks on the injury list today. On top of however much of the pre season he already missed. Calf injuries don't take 15 weeks to heal. It is obviously his concussion issues and they don't want to admit it. We have bought a lemon.

Injury’s suck but at least we will get games into more kids & find out more about the the list. We know what Starc will bring when he’s back.

Champion will get his chance now. Confidence is high in the team now with 2 early wins so that should at least keep us competitive.

Actually they said recently it's to build fitness because he missed 8-10 weeks of the preseason whilst he was injured, which sounds about right.

Yeh nah mate, you know Nada about calf injuries. Plenty calf injuries take 8-12 weeks, particularly when the tendon is involved. Then, when load is introduced in the running phase, setback happen, a lot. And every week he isn't running full pelt is another week behind the speed of the game he is. It is what it is

You are delusional.

If he was building fitness he would be playing in the WAFL. Even if it was only half a game. You don't sit somebody in the cub gym for months to build fitness. You play them in your seconds, possibly on managed minutes.

An injury report saying somebody won't be available for selection for 8 weeks means they are injured and likely to be unavailable for selection for the next 8 weeks. It doesn't mean they are perfectly fit and not injured right now but we are not going play them in our firsts or seconds for the next 8 weeks and are going to leave them in the gym.

Is he even training on the track at this point?

You are delusional.

I've read many of your posts.

I'm not the delusional one.

Have you any idea how much footy he's missed? You don't just throw a bloke into games to build fitness, especially if he's only just returning to training now.

Yes. Unavailable for selection means they are not deemed fit to play minutes in a game. That doesn't mean they are currently injured.

This has been the case for years.

In the track, in the gym. Does it matter if he's building fitness up to play. I daresay he's probably recently recovered from his injury, which is why he now has a timeline instead of TBC and as he's missed a big chunk of training, needs to get ready to play.

This is not unusual for a player who missed a lot of the preseason. In fact, it's quite normal.

He also doesn't have a history of injuries outside his 2nd year, so saying we've been 'sold a lemon' is a pretty dumb take.

Lots of opportunities here though for some of the B team to show their worth.

But also sadly an opportunity for some of our B23 to relax a little given less selection pressure.

Fingers crossed Newton isn’t a season long injury. Was really liking his game lately

I can't believe how dumb you are.

He has been ruled out of even WAFL games for 8 weeks. if somebody has recovered from whatever injury they had but are lacking match fitness then you play them in your seconds. Thats what our WAFL side is there for. That is why we have it. If they are so far away from match fitness (but not because of injury) then you play them in the WAFL for a quarter or a half a game. Whatever they can handle. And then you try and increase the minutes on the ground each week. You don't rule them out of playing anywhere at all for 8 weeks making their lack of match fitness issue even worse.

The injury list is for INJURED PLAYERS. Players with an injury. Not players who have recovered from an injury but who are lacking match fitness.

It was a navicular injury that ruined his draft year so this is the second one he’s had in the space of two years

From the West when we drafted him in the MSD

A navicular injury derailing Newton’s under-18 championship campaign for South Australian last season and cost him the chance to impress at the National Draft Combine.

Really unfortunate for the young lad

I see Starcevich let slip the magic words 'towards the back end of the season' on 6pr this morning.

The good news is that means he's already progressed right past the 'probably after the bye' update and we only have to worry about 'we still expect him to play senior football this year' before we get to the 'make sure he's absolutely cherry ripe for 2027' conclusion.
