Think the modern ratings system started in 2001. If it started a year earlier, the Sydney Olympics would have pretty much all of the top 10 TV ratings of all time
Definitely. It's something the Grade Cricketer refer to a lot, that this current Australian group is an 'almost' great team. They almost won in India if not for an hour of madness in Delhi. They almost won in England twice, but threw away an advantage both times.
This batting chase was their...
Feeling really flat this morning, given the age of our squad this was really our last chance to win in England for a long time. The squad in 2027 will be unrecogniseable from this current group; can't see a fresh inexperienced squad winning next time.
Given this it will likely be 30+ years...
So anyone got us making the 8? We need 2 wins from our last 4 to be guaranteed, 1 win we could make it on %, but would need other results to go our way.
Carlton (H) - Don't expect to win on Carlton's current form.
Richmond (H) - Most hopeful of getting the win in this one, should've beat them...
Really odd decision from Stokes to not declare overnight. They've added 7 runs in 2 overs for that last wicket. Keeping in mind they lose 2 additional overs due to innings changeover, they have just burned 20 minutes from the game for not much on the scoreboard. Also keeping in mind there is...
Just saw the news about Broad's retirement.
I can't imagine the scenes at the Oval tonight if he gets Warner out again. Even though I want Australia to win and Warner to make a big score, a small part of me would like to see this happen
Absolutely desperate for the Aussies to win (or at least draw) this game, for me this is just as important as the last 4 games in the series - it doesn't matter to me that the urn has been retained.
Lifting the urn at the Oval in 2019 after losing the test and drawing the series felt very...
On paper it's actually an amazing side (middle order in particular), team from the 4th test at the MCG when we got bowled out for 98:
Watson
Hughes
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Smith
Haddin
Johnson
Harris
Siddle
Hilfenhaus
Although reality was a different story; Ponting, Clarke and Johnson were...
Never in dobut.
In all seriousness, why can we not have just an easy comfortable win? Even when we play West Coast and North who are 2 of the worst AFL teams of all time we manage to play worse than them for the majority of the game before finally pulling our finger out at the end
Even if we don't get rain again tonight is there a likelihood of going off for bad light later in the day? Looks pretty gloomy atm even with the floodlights, will only get worse throughout the day
Not to turn this into a degenerate gambling thread, but does anyone else think the odds of the draw are ridiculously high considering we will likely lose all of day 4 and a big chunk of day 5? We're into the 5th session of the match that we will likely only get 10-12 sessions of and only 11...
Novak will be very hungry next time they play, I'd expect him to do a lot of research and change his tactics somehwhat for his next matchup with Alcaraz.
For example after Medvedev demolished him in the 2021 US Open final, in thier next matchup at Paris Indoor Novak began to serve and volley a...
Just caught up on the match - unbelievable standard of tennis. Probably the best match since the 2019 Wimbledon final.
Alcaraz is so far ahead of the rest of the younger guys coming through it's not funny. After Djokovic retires/slows down in the next couple of years there really may not be...
So ran through my ladder predictor.
Next 2 games I have us beating North and Hawthorn (although only scraped a win against North, and got beaten by Hawthorn last time - wouldn't suprise me if we lose both).
Last 4 games we've got Carlton, Richmond, Geelong and Brisbane.
If we win 1 of those...
All on the Ons bandwagon now! She's has had an insanely tough draw so far (Andreescu, Kvitova, Rybakina, Sabalenka), four GS champions and beaten all of them. One more win please!
Do you have any evidence of free tickets being given away? Couldn't find anything about it from a google search about it. Seems like a conspiracy theory to me, next thing you'll be telling me the Earth is actually flat.
It should also be noted that State of Origin sets the ticket prices so high...
That's isn't backed up by facts at all looking at recent Origin crowds at Accor:
2023 Game 3: 75,342 (Dead Rubber)
2022 Game 1: 80,512
2020 Game 2: 36,212 (Covid restricted capacity)
2019 Game 3: 82,565
2018 Game 2: 82,223
2017 Game 2: 82,259
2016 Game 3: 61,267 (Dead Rubber)
2016 Game 1...
There is obviously no comparable game to Origin in the AFL, especially a 'dead' game, but a big 4 Melbourne club game is the closest comparison.
As I said I'm a fan of both codes, but I think a narrative that it was a bad crowd is silly when the ground is 90% full. Especially when the AFL...
It was actually the highest ever Origin dead rubber crowd ever.
As a fan of both codes I honestly tought it was a very good crowd considering it was a game that ultimately doesn't mean anything. When the big 4 Melbourne clubs meet up late in the season when both out of finals contention they...
That's now 13 years in a row where the series scoreline has been 2-1, that's actually a pretty crazy stat. Also only 1 of the last 23 series have been a clean sweep, also very surprising considering how good the 8 in a row side was.
Eubanks last night was just slapping winners all over the place like a man with nothing to lose. I don't think that's sustainable if he's a bit off, I'd back Medvedev to make the semi.
Alcaraz v Rune should be a good matchup, first ever Wimbledon QF with both players under 21.
Can't see Rublev...
