    Training 2025 Pre Season Thread

Tickets are pretty cheap on Level 3 where many fans sit and the club seems to offer discounted tickets a fair amount of the time. Yep members attending and the stadium (i.e. the AFL) taking its cut of ticket sales would have a sizeable impact as well. I'm not sure what makes up the hospitality...

    AFL overtaking NRL in QLD

There's probably some amount of overlap in actual participants in that League/Touch/Tag total though it's not apparent how much. The AusPlay latest tables display data about the numbers of adult volunteers in non playing roles (i.e coaches, officials, administrators, team managers) in...

    AFL overtaking NRL in QLD

You're including a 9k "home" attendance at Norwood Oval during Gather Round in that figure. Their Gabba average was 30,864. After 11 matches, the Lions were 13th on the ladder which had an adverse impact. The Broncos were 5th at the equivalent stage. It is indisputable that the Broncos have a...

The court in our case also held we were not vicariously liable but the jury found that we were liable because we had a duty of care to the victim and were negligent. I suspect we will have an outcome of our appeal soon.

    AFLW AFLW/VFLW 2024 - General Discussion

Yep, we originally had pick 11 which Carlton used on Keeley Sherar who is a gun. Not guaranteed that we would picked her but it makes it even worse. We didn't accept North's offer of 28 for Rennie and we ended up with nothing for losing her. A horror show really

    AFLW AFLW/VFLW 2024 - General Discussion

Our three 2021 draft picks (Ling, Smith and Snell) all now delisted after just three years. Disappointing given they were all picks in the 20s but perhaps not surprising given the lack of football in the two COVID affected years which must have made selections even more of a lottery.

Indeed, though the silver lining is that a draft pick we got for her (pick 16) was used to recruit Pritchard.

Employment has also been a factor. That's how we lost Kearney and McCarthy. You are right about Conti and Brennan. Up until last year, clubs were able to pay unlimited sponsorship monies (Additional Service Agreements) to two Tier 1 players. Thankfully under the latest AFLPA agreement, these...

    AFLW AFLW/VFLW 2024 - General Discussion

The Freo coach, Lisa Webb was an assistant with us and they had a good relationship. The promise of more midfield time was also likely an attraction. Still, it was another example of how much of a shambles our player retention has been. Both Newton and Lynch said very nice things about our club...

Ahrens is a substantial loss but I'm happy with these changes. Ferres has fallen off a cliff from being a solid defender and I suspect will get delisted at season's end. Gavelas has been a major disappointment. She has had very limited impact, appears unfit and her kicking is meh. McKee looks...

What They're Saying - The Bulldogs Media Thread - Part 4

No, our club is owned by us members not the AFL. We are not the Giants, Suns, Swans, Crows or Power. Having said that, we do get $3m less each year in variable funding than the Lions, Saints and Roos and $9m less than the Suns and Giants and we should expect the full support of the AFL if we...

    Changes Required

In response to a poster talking about the $1m+ benefit to the club you simply referred to the City of Ballarat component. Changes Required

Visit Victoria are a premier partner of the club which includes ground signage at Mars Stadium. It is untrue to suggest that the state government has not been sponsoring the Ballarat matches and we have only been receiving monies from the council. Despite the state's finances, the state...

Western Bulldogs and the MCG factor

The club must think that the financial returns are significantly greater at Ballarat due to government sponsorship than playing at Marvel in front of 20-25k fans. We have not had a home match at the MCG against a big team this century. We had a number of home games at the MCG from 2004 to 2009...

Western Bulldogs and the MCG factor

The AFL is only contractually obliged to play 45 H&A matches at the MCG and have 10 of the 12 highest drawing games there. It is not required to give 7 Vic clubs the overwhelming bulk of H&A matches there and give the other 3 sweet FA. The AFL controls where all Vic teams play and they...
