The first bit is a pretty fanciful narrative. Plenty of teams had/have very good down-the-line defences, and general pressure overall. I don't think that was something only Richmond could lay claim to.
The second bit, that Scott and Hocking conspired to change the rules to bring about...
Do you honestly think Richmond were better than everyone else at this particular (and absolutely fundamental) skill in the game? Manning the mark. Really?
It's not rocket science.
1. Wave your arms around
2. Move "inboard" to cut off passes into the corridor.
3. Wave your arms around...
So you’re saying that the AFL conspired with Geelong Football Club to cheat Richmond FC out of more flags?
That’s quite a claim!!
Maybe when Scotty said he’d figured out how to beat the Tigers he was referring to the successful strategy of waiting for your best players to decline or retire...
I don’t know whether Richmond FC have commented on it publicly but boy, do their fans on bigfooty like to bang on about it.
Me, I love a conspiracy theory.
Tell me more.
Did other teams not man the mark before the stand rule?
My memory might be failing me but I’d swear I saw players from teams other than Richmond manning the mark.
It was quite a common thing, along with kicking, hand-passing, bouncing, running and jumping.
Kids were taught it at AusKick.
Falcon/Cleany etc still has his knickers in a twist about father/sons and the stand rule.
And still wheeling out excuses - “we had injuries” “we had the flu”.
Nothing new under the sun.
Yay! After a short lull, this thread is delivering again, albeit with a different thing to whinge about.
Please don’t forget the staples: stand-rule, father/sons, having a home ground, real-estate, Jack Bowes, Bailey smith, what am I forgetting?
This is easily my favourite thread on BigFooty. The desperation is very funny.
However, I’d like to hear more about the Stewart/Prestia incident, father /sons and non circular playing surface.
Lift your game.
Gold Coast were desperate to get him off their books.
Bowes had a contract and was absolutely entitled to stay at Gold Coast.
Can you not see how powerless they were in that situation? (A situation of their own making).
The very least they could do is help him get to the club of his choice...
I get it. There’s a lot of people sick of Geelong’s constant contending.
If I supported another team I’d probably be sick of them too. Maybe I’d even suspect something nefarious was going on. It’s human nature.
If you really are convinced though, and you want to get your point across though, I...
Bevo is a “brand ambassador” for one of the bulldogs sponsors. What a scandal!
I have to say I’m surprised at the level of outrage coming from doggies supporters. Previously had seemed a fairly level headed bunch. Seem to have lost the plot in recent days.
Your “collective” obsession. Have a look again at the posting the night of the prelim. Thread has probably doubled in size since then. Hilarious stuff.
And yet it was the night of the prelim final when this thread really exploded with tigers rushing in saying “yeah we didn’t win the flag this year but YOU didn’t win it either! Nah nah nah”.
That’s your obsession.
