...played better off hbf & in the mid than allan, and if allan's point of difference is that he can play wing... what a waste of a top 6 selection
I do get that allan is more athletic which is nice, but I also remember that samphilp spud that carlton drafted? amazing athlete, wonderful 2 game...
2016 was a bit of sh!tshow
2017 LDU/Cerra (saves a later trade) & we deciding between Ed Richards. TDK tick but we were also interested in Xerri.
2018 Walsh was a gimme
2019 Pick# 1 / split for H.Young (was our target)/Serong & SDK (so close..). Sam Flanders wouldn’t have too bad in the end...
Being Pick 20 doesn't mean a lot.
Especially when you consider that Pick 20 over the past decade has included names such as SamPhilp, Riley Collier-Dawkins, Callum Coleman-Jones and Jack Leslie.
Geelong like us and every club has had stinkers too, it’s early but two years in at their top 8 pick from the 22 draft has managed 15 games and has really struggled.
Every draft there are lots of players from the 1st round who never get going for whatever reason.
Every year people double down...
Disagree. Clubs that don't nail top 15 picks are doomed, if they don't have an academy. Yes you'll cite Geelong as an exception but drafting is crucial. Your listed failures say more about the recruiters choice, than the importanc.e of early draft picks. Stocker, Philp, cunningham were drafted...
Wouldn't it be a better exercise to include the successes and also some contect about actual draft position for the same rather than just chuck names out there?
It's a fairly long bow to name cat b rookies like Korchek and rookies.
6 or 7 weeks ago we were 2nd on the ladder and close to...
Probably not an unusual amount of failures for any club. The issue is that all the faster midfielders we have drafted have failed.
Boekhorst, Smedts, Fisher, Dow, SPS, Stocker, Lang, Garlett, Cuningham, Polson, Gibbons, O'Brien, Fogarty, Durdin, Ramsay, Honey, Philp, Carroll. All quicker...
...Gallucci, Matt Korcheck, Sam Petrevski-Seton, Harrison Macreadie, Patrick Kerr, Kym LeBois, Liam Stocker, Finbar O’Dwyer, Ben Silvagni, SamPhilp, Sam Ramsey, Josh Honey, Fraser Phillips, Luke Parks.
From 2016 onwards. With some of the picks we’ve had, it’s pretty bad. This is disregarding...
It's not necessarily about being stupid quick, but not being on the other end. A better list would be guys who made it that ran north of 3.2.
Game gets quicker at AFL level and watching the game right now the finals get quicker again. If you're that slow then you'll get caught, be rushed ect...

How exactly is O.Hollands a "stinky" pick? Kemp as well proving to be a pretty good asset. Stocker playing pretty consistently for the Saints. Philp just a horrid run with injury.
...Carlton’s first round drafting since taking Walsh as a reward for winning 2 games in 2018
Pick 19 - Liam Stocker
Pick 17 - Brodie Kemp
Pick 20 - SamPhilp
Pick 11 - Oliver Hollands
😬😬😬
Jaidyn Stephenson did more in one and a half years at Collingwood than they have in many years combined
I’m not sure Carroll is going to make it either and wouldn’t be too worried if he was traded but Dow is not the answer to our current issues either IMO. Granted he was injured in the preseason so he probably deserves a bit of slack but from what I’ve seen of him this year there is no indication...
Yeah, act when we know we should. The opposition keeps improving and innovating. We can't go slow when we've identified issues.
We announced last year we were going to address our durability issues. We delisted Philp, and kept Marchbank, Martin, Cuningham, Sam Durdin. Sure, contracts come...
...back to 20 because of Carlton bidding on Liam Henry and Tom Green. On draft night we traded pick 20 to Carlton for 22 and 55, giving up SamPhilp and Thomson Dow. 22 Being the first pick of Round 2 (and the first pick of the second day) we traded overnight to Brisbane for 23 and Collingwood's...
I think at a bare minimum you've got to look at the picks taken immediately around the player.
Saying Cunningham was a bad pick at 19 because Dawson was still there at 57 is not all that fair. The take-away there is it was a pretty shallow draft.
