...players in the ruck that become other things once the ball hits the deck. Rhys Stanley has made a living on his second efforts. MarkBlicavs has been Mr Everything for the club, and has the Carji Greeves Medals to prove it.
Are they ever going to fix the goddamn ruck issue?
There is no...
You said all players at 18 that can't kick won't be able to kick at 25. That might apply to kids that have played lots of junior footy and have the technique/habits ingrained in them. if you have come from another sport and are learning how to kick or played limited games of footy at a junior...
Blicavs isn’t there for his skills.. its because he isn’t a soft 200cm player that could compete in the air. Blicavs isn’t someone I associate with skills other than Marking.. he’s more like Finbar that competed nationally at long distance running.
Im not even sure what the argument is
Blicavs...
So are you saying Darcy would have played more if he wasnt on such a long contract? No I dont think so,. If a good ruck is one of the most important players in the team and if you have a really good one and if other teams are coming for him with longer or more valuable contracts what do you...

I always thought Blicavs was the key for Geelong. He solved so many problems and created so many issues for the opposition. If we have a coaching panel smart enough to use him properly, Curtin could be an absolute weapon and one of the most valuable players in the AFL.
You essentially just described MarkBlicavs career minus the 2nd Ruck stints.
If we end up with that you won't find me complaining. Another player we have let do his thing at will against us for over a decade.
The lack of De Koning photos makes me a little worried.
Seems as though this is the guy they have ear-marked as the future full back of our defense.
Probably need one more tall defender in the coming draft (if Sam does explore offers from another club) as with Blicavs about to retire, Henry a...

Its easy enough for a ruck to drift back Ben McEvoy style.
But for a key defender to fill in for a resting ruck is much harder.
Imagine that Dougal is manning up Ben McKay , then just leaves him free to do the ruckwork.
...and being just 198cm, I kinda think I like the idea.

Ben McEvoy
Stefan Martin
Leigh Brown
Jordan Roughead
MarkBlicavs
Sam De Koning
..and the great Shane Grambeau of course…
Players who have rucked and played back.
Even Paddy Ryder at Essendon!

I'm looking for a singular, dominant defender, not a two man team. Between the two of them, they were exceptional; individually, they both had limitations.
But you cannot understate the importance of Tom Stewart or Marc Blicavs to that backline.
... because of the support he got from Astbury...
Brisbane - Harris Andrews
Collingwood - Moore + Murphy... Not sure why either is a question mark. Don't like them but were very good in 2023.
Geelong - Sam DeKoning was absolutely one of the best KPDs in the league in 2022. Regressed since then but he was phenomenal in 2022.
Melbourne - May +...

...I have a good mix of youth and experience in this side. Harris Andrews is the anchor in defence, with Rory Lobb holding down CHB. With MarkBlicavs on the bench, either he or Lobb can take relief ruck duties without the side losing a key defender.
Young Reuben Ginbey made a good fist of it...
...He allows me to use him or Lobb as my second ruck without losing my second tall defender in the process.
He's my first uber-veteran but is the ultimate professional athlete and while turning 34 before the season starts, could easily go on a couple more years.
I'm a huge fan.
Welcome Mark...
He was looking very good in the Blicavs role this year from about Rd 16 (the week after the Blues match) til Rd 19 while Blicavs was pushed into defence and then SDK copped some late season niggles but I think having him up the field was a better use of his running ability and strong marking.
He...
My 2cents.
All of this …if we get the nod from either of those names then look to do what we have to prepare and have enough trade collateral.
A legit FA would be ideal .Tall or mid. Like Smith and Stengle.. its hard to quantify the boost you get for a nothing player.
Depends on if we are targeting Reid or cadman or similar in a trade for 2026. If so I would just trade the pick forward to 26. Otherwise we could go either way but I'd be looking tall as blicavs and Stanley are done and Conway and a few others have question marks. Obviously if sdk and neale sign...
