Also this is completely false, once Lycett moved to Port and out from under Nic Nat he averaged more hitouts per game every year than Bailey did this season
Bailey averaged more hitouts in 2023 than Lycett ever did in his career. That includes Lycetts time at the Power. Sure he was impacted by Naitanui but it's not like he was ever a dominant ruck with us. He wasn't dominant at Port either. Just solid.
I'll agree that Lycett was a more consistent...
Ahhh. I remember when posters said the same thing about Goldstein.
When Naitanui did his knee in 2018 and Eagles had traded out Hickey I posted on the Eagles board we could do worse than bring Goldstein over with Simo, Hickmont and Petrie coaching to add some experience. Seven years later Nic...
It would be dream. But it's exactly that imo. History tells us drafting rucks top 5 is not the way to go to find your ruckman.

No no no.
Given the acquisition of jobe. Completely halt all negotiations with Oscar Allen. Restart negotiation with Oscar at the end of 2025.
Who knows maybe archer or jobe can cement a spot at chf
...itself from the last year of Jack Darling’s long-term deal by trading him to North Melbourne for a late pick.
But the Eagles signed NicNaitanui for two more years despite knee issues in 2022 and he did not play another game, retiring halfway through the contract.
So West Coast will have to...
Wasn't sure where to post this. From Codesports.
I think its good by the club to be cautious with this. Would suck to lose allen after losing barrass but if he decides to leave more a bigger or longer term contract then so be it.
Rowell is just that he's putting off contract talks to next year to see if Gold Coast doesn't fade out in the 2nd half of the year like normal. The Allen bit is below:
From the rookieMe website:
"Although not as tall as him, Tauru has been likened to West Coast stalwart NicNaitanui due to his athleticism but he has also been likened to Hawthorn captain James Sicily in terms of his defensive game and aggressive attack on the ball, Sydney captain Dane Rampe...

It is quite remarkable that the top 3 on this list, and 7 of the top 8, were ruckmen playing on the losing side in the Grand Final.
Goes to show that Hit Outs aren't always important - it depends more on the players around the ball to gain possession and use it well.

With Darling and Barrass now requesting trades, the club is being ruthless with list management.
Night and day compared to offering an absolutely cooked and imminently retiring NicNaitanui and Luke Shuey additional years.
We've had a sub par midfield for a decade +, it's been papered over whenever we had a fit Nic Nat. It just showed his complete and utter dominance. Thinking upon it, i think he's probably my favourite all time eagles player because of that. And the fact i'm a failed, broken down ruck.
...Looking back on past teams, it's uncommon that two ruckmen are found in the final 22 despite it happening on occasion.
Gawn and NicNaitanui in 2020 and 2021. Gawn and Grundy in 2018 and 2019.
And given the bias towards a midfield-heavy lineup, a ruck who is included in the 44-man squad...
Not the thread for it but much like the umpiring it’s the stances they don’t take. Made a joke application for the AFLW because they didn’t want a part of it. Only club that refused a pride jumper in the AFLW. Did **** all for the plebiscite.
It’s a business by old white men, for old white men...
