Travaglia doesn't seem locked in best 22. El Hawli the same. It's always the defensive rookies that make life hell. Hopefully Leake, Allan and KalebSmith all good.
Like the table, handy point of reference.
Don't know what others think, but Kynon Brown and Spargo could be possibilities, same with Max Hall, Will Lorenz and KalebSmith
Just having a look at my bench rookies who are all $230k
Leake/Reid
KalebSmith
Lorenz/Moraes
El-Hawli
Max Heath
Conor Stone
Max Hall
Sam Davidson
There's bound to be others that I haven't identified, Gothard and Boxshall come to mind. But geez, makes the on field team nice.
TBH I don't have...
...many fringe players getting a look through the mids. Praccy's will tell us more.
El Hawli was well down in the intraclub last week, which wasn't good. but I do like KalebSmith at the Tiges for his probable role down back.
So plenty of money to be re-purposed should some other value...
He has been good this pre season and playing off a HB in Match sims. I don't think he will play Round 1 but even if he does he will be a huge Sub risk.
2024 Balta started KPF and did kick a goal or 2. Moved back when Gibcus got injured. Moved forward to give Blight a go.
Miller came in for Young and had a solid year. Not great. Still lacks intensity. Doubt if he keeps his spot when the troops are back from ACL rehab.
Naismith rucked for...
good write-up. im pretty confident we'll have a better season than last year even with the exits. people seem to have forgotten how cursed we were with injuries, it was ridiculous. just having a reasonably stable team being fielded each wee will net us wins. last year it was musical chairs and...
Agreed 100%.
ps. you might have glossed over Taranto missing 8 games on the trot as well. Remember he broke his wrist at training, captains run, with 1 minute left in the session.
...Vlastuin, Broad, Short (I know) and Miller should form the crux of a solid backline, throw in Brown, Trezise (probably depth), Banks and KalebSmith. Those guys, particularly with continuity of roles, are experienced enough and talented enough to match most backlines in the league. Depth is...
Great post
You say they are holding onto the ball and being more precise in defence. Does this not bode well for Short?
Honestly I don’t want a bar of Short but he’s owned by 30% so it’s getting to the point where he becomes a little harder to fade. Looking for any reason to shunt him
He's my D6 out of desperation at the moment (could well be El Hawli or Leake yet), but I have three $1m plus boys as D1,2,3, so you have do what you have to do. 4tune8 has confirmed what I'd had said to me about our back transition work (and Smith's development), but it is a WIP.
Nice post.
KalebSmith was one i short-listed very early when the game opened but didn't hear anything about him or see him in any best 22s so i moved on, maybe I need to reconsider
...where players like Bauer are having a real impact.
All of Brown, Banks, Trezise, Smith and Ralphsmith have been training down back with KalebSmith being the one earmarked for Rioli's role.
Koschitzke has also been training with the backs all preseason and from all reports is doing well...
...and pending the short-term health of Josh Gibcus, Koschitzke will be in the frame for early-season senior action as a defender. KalebSmithand Sam Banks are among the possibilities to replace the departed Daniel Rioli across half-back.
Injury latest: Gibcus, having missed a decent amount of...
Where to play Campbell? the only game I caught ~ ground zero. He was our only forward to be able to manage the wind A couple of great forward craft marks and excellent goal kicking. The team kicked 9 goals a game last year, average, we lost Bolton, Baker, Martin .
Leave Campbell at half fwd...
...may be developing as a rebounding back flanker for us rather than a KPP. Skinny but track watchers think he could be a R1 chance.
KalebSmith I think a chance to replace Rioli.
Lalor back training and has started to slim down but don't think I'll be going there.
Smillie I think may be...
Rioli just looked good individually at half back but had **** all influence on our results. Easily best on visually in our last game but we got smashed by Gold Coast. The issue is the ball moves faster in the air. A long penetrating kick from Short at half back is far more likely to catch the...
...me the question is simple, who has the best attributes to get close to what Rioli has delivered the last three seasons.?
For me that is KalebSmith based on nothing more than his junior years and his testing.
Cannot judge him on his 4 games so far because of limited game time, how poor has...
Only Trezise can really fill that role. KalebSmith is a worse defender than Short. I don’t think having tall defenders is an issue. Plenty of clubs have tall backlines. There aren’t many quality lockdown small defenders so get the tall guys to keep it away from them.
I think our backline will...
