    Oppo Camp Non-Lions Discussion 2025

What a surprise: a) They were all errors (yet again the AFL tightens a rule, then softens it over time, with no explanation) b) It involved Collingwood (after they introduced shepherding on the mark, underhanded time wasting, avoiding insufficient intent, etc, etc). Always pushing the...

    Review Round 7, 2025 - St.Kilda vs. Brisbane Lions

A couple of seasons ago, I would have agreed. Now, not so much. I reckon since Answerth got back into the team, and Starc got back, our coverage and balance has been a lot better, and we were and are far less exposed against smaller forwards. Maybe there's an element too, that when our KPD's...

    Review Round 7, 2025 - St.Kilda vs. Brisbane Lions

Considering the way he completely dismantled Higgins last year (4 disposals - lowest ever in a full game), and his average disposals against us is lower than any other team, I dare say Higgins would have been breathing a sigh of relief that Starcevich was unavailable. All things being equal, him...

List Mgmt. 2025 List Management Discussion

Considering we don't need to give up anything than (increasing) cap space, I think he actually does come cheap, all things considered. Anyone else "comparable" would come at a relatively similar $$$ figure, but cost us picks or players, with the former being even more valuable now with the...

    Preview Round 7, 2025 - St.Kilda vs. Brisbane Lions

I know the stats were posted earlier, but I feel Oscar has beaten Marshall the past 3-4 times we've played them. Marshall gets a few more stats around the ground (or drifting forward when Campbell went in the ruck), but Oscar has manhandled Marshall somewhat in the ruck contests. Hopefully...

List Mgmt. 2025 List Management Discussion

Sorry to re-quote myself, but appears you aren't alone! I think he's a clear upgrade on anything we have in the 2's. With salary caps going up, Joe gone, it's not going to break the bank. I can't see us walking away (if we are in fact up to our eyeballs).

List Mgmt. 2025 List Management Discussion

Suspect you're on your own there. If we have the option of a (potentially elite, fitness and form permitting) key forward landing in our lap via FA, we'd be mad not to pursue it.

    Expansion QLD and NSW academies

If you read previous posts, it's because of a majority of players, each year, when traded, go to their home state. I don't know the % figure as of 2024, but there is a clear trend, over a large number of years. The chance of success is clearly one element of attraction (as is $$$), but what to...

    Expansion QLD and NSW academies

No, it's not. You are at an advantage being in a football state. If two players are rated the same, the club will go for the home grown talent. Clubs will also actively avoid "flight risks". Players drafted "interstate" have their home state clubs in their ear from the time they move...

This is probably the best position for Robertson, too, all things considered, IMO. Has a quicker burst of pace than Graham, FWIW, too.

    Expansion QLD and NSW academies

GC and GWS had the high talent on their lists obviously to give them an initial leg-up, but also because they knew players would depart to "go home". You only had to see Tanner Bruhn's face on draft night to see what the end game was going to be! Whether a player is "high quality" or not is...

    Expansion QLD and NSW academies

There's more than that (Sweet, BZT off the top of my head), plus others too. Adelaide also - Rankine, Dawson, ANB, Cumming (more there too)................ The SA (and WA, and Vic) teams still have the advantage of potentially being able to trade for a player that wants to "go home"...

    Expansion QLD and NSW academies

You have the advantage however, of players wanting to "go home", which the northern clubs, at the moment, rarely benefit from (and hopefully, in time, the Academies address). Each and every year, the majority of players moving, move to "go home". On top of that, you have players openly (or...

Review Round 5, 2025 - Western Bulldogs vs. Brisbane Lions

Interesting that Fletcher has barely got a mention? Besides one fumble, thought he was elite today, both in decision making, and disposal. Love watching him play. Shoutout to Payne too - he's getting pretty close to his (pre-injury) form of two years ago. Bailey has left his crook ankle...

Preview Round 5 - Gather Round, a Celebration of Football

Or Andrews goes to Naughton, who is a shadow of the player he was, and gives him no respect? My fear (and surely the coaches are already a step ahead on this), is that we a) become too hell-bent on stopping Darcy that we allow Naughton (or O'Donnell) to get off the chain, or b) allow their...

Can't bring myself to respect the Dogs, regardless, just yet. The magic carpet ride they got through the back end of 2016, plus the 2021 final - no thanks. Each to their own though!

We need to talk about Oscar

Yep - as did Stef Martin. I seem to recall even in that awful game in 2018 (when we kicked 2 goals), Nankervis was well beaten. He's the AFL's Luc Longley - nothing special, but he was in the right place at the right time (and has 3 Premierships to show for it).

List Mgmt. 2025 List Management Discussion

That's a bit of stretch for mine (AFL isn't for him). For all we know, as alluded to above, he may already know he's out the door, be torn (over what is likely his last "big contract"), and possibly even struggling with confidence in his body. Our Captains may have stood up, but they didn't...

Review Round 3, 2025 - Brisbane Lions vs. Geelong

Bailey's HTB was against Blicavs, and it was Chapman that dived on the ball in (I think) 2013. There were some blatant pushes in the back that were allowed back in 2022 down there, too. I can't recall a Hawkins incident?
