2020 AFL Crowds & Ratings Thread

10,384 at HBF Arena in Joondalup for the Fremantle vs West Coast Marsh Series game. And 5,127 last week in Mandurah for Fremantle vs Carlton. With the AFLW games going on at Leederville, Lathlain and Fremantle Ovals, it’s great these WAFL grounds getting some big attendances.

2020 AFL Crowds & Ratings Thread

Probably not, it if is Victoria vs the All-Stars every year. But what about next year it is played at Optus Stadium and it is WA vs the All Stars (with Vic in the All Stars team). The year after it is SA vs the All Stars at Adelaide Oval. Make it a rare occasion, and an opportunity for the...

AFLW Round 3 Discussion - 2020 AFLW season - Teams in OP

    Expansion 3rd Western Australian club

Your right, it would be hard to prevent marketing spill from one club into the other areas. Especially since media outlets cover state wide. You just have to see how the current suburbs of Perth and towns of WA tend to have supporters of both Eagles and Freo. Especially as people move homes...

    Expansion 3rd Western Australian club

So I just posted this in the Freo team specific thread for this topic, and I figured these population numbers are relevant here too.

    Prediction Third club for Perth

Well between the Cities of Wanneroo and Joondalup they are projected to grow from 320,000 to 740,000 residents by 2050. At that time Perth would have a population of 3.5million, with the 400,000 additional residents in Joondalup and Wanneroo being a third of all additional residents from Perth’s...

Would the NRL be disappointed with the 2 days of crowds in Perth for the NRL 9’s of: Day 1 - 10,128 Day 2 - 14,739

    Expansion 3rd Western Australian club

Well it would most likely only be 1 less game of travel for each tram, which would be the current teams ‘away’ game to a third team. As the current teams ‘home’ game to a third team would just replace a non-WA team from having to travel to Perth.

2020 AFL Crowds & Ratings Thread

Even though the Eagles AFLW team will no doubt average bigger crowds than the Dockers AFLW team over time, and this weeks Derby will help boost the crowd for the Eagles first home game, I suspect this crowd won’t be as big as the Dockers first game at Optus Stadium as that crowd was bolstered by...

WAFL Expansion is the only way it can Survive.

True, and East Freo have now committed to staying at East Freo Oval. It just seems like a missed opportunity to really build one good footy field with updated facilities for spectators, players, sponsors etc. One boutique stadium that could maximise the capital expense by hosting a WAFL game...

WAFL Expansion is the only way it can Survive.

Ok so new idea for a WAFL restructure: • Freo Dockers get stand alone WAFL teams - 11 team comp, 22 round H&A season, everyone has 2 byes. • Eagles and Freo only ever play away games so the non AFL teams get 12 games at their home ground for increased game day revenue. • Reserve’s are dropped...

AFLW Round 1 Discussion - 2020 AFLW season

It was better that the game was moved to Ikon Park, so it could be shown how big AFLW can be by drawing a crowd of 15,337 (official crowd). 15,000 in a ground that holds 22,000 still looks pretty impressive visually and in terms of a sense of atmosphere. It is way better than locking...

Design Ideas for new Perth Stadium

It would be pretty cool if both AFLW teams could have separate playing grounds. Though both AFL teams play out of the same stadium. It’s a shame that Lathlain Park is outside the entertainment area of Vic Park. Perhaps if Fremantle Oval is upgraded, East Fremantle would play home games there too.

Design Ideas for new Perth Stadium

Considering how few AFLW games there are in their season at the moment, and the lack of other events in Perth that requires an oval and draws a crowd in the 5-15,000 range, it seems a waste for the Dockers and Eagles to play at two separately upgraded grounds. Leederville Oval might be ideal...

Design Ideas for new Perth Stadium

Another problem with getting more events at the WACA ground is that it is a cricket oval first and foremost. The football games that would best suit the WACA’s capacity would be the AFLW games. But the AFLW season overlaps with the end of the state cricket season so the cricket pitch would...

Yeah, unfortunately you guys are right. There just wouldn’t be the demand to make such a small rectangle facility needed.

    Women's Footy AFLW Fremantle - 2020 #1 Team - Season Cancelled

Has anyone heard how ticket sales are going for the first Women’s Derby? They were stating they were hoping to set a new AFLW record crowd, but with the lack of general discussion I hear about it, I don’t think ticket sales will be going that good.

Design Ideas for new Perth Stadium

So I didn’t want to start a new thread, and this old one seemed to start talking stadiums/grounds in Perth in general. But found this interest data about Perth sports home crowds in National Comps as of 26 Jan 2020. It makes me wonder where the AFLW Eagles team will slot in. And the same if...
