The Liberal Party - How long? - Part 2

An excellent read here, supporting many of the contentions I've read in this thread re: how socially conservative the self-proclaimed "broad church" has become compared with its origins. Spoiler: it's pretty much the mendacious midget's fault...

Nobody listens to the Murdoch media anymore anyway. If they did, Dutton would be our PM right now. Instead, he lost his seat.

The Liberal Party - How long? - Part 2

That's so broad and generic that nobody would ever disagree with it. It sounds like it could be written by a horoscope writer.

ScoMo gonna ScoMo. The bloke is incapable of conceding he is ever wrong about anything. What a dumb campaigner. Basically defending his approach to China when he was PM and saying that we are now being manipulated -...

Probably someone who was sick of the spam texts during the election.

Yep. We definitely dodged that bullet. Or more accurately, we saw the shooter and moved a few kilometres away before he fired.

Private Health is waste of money

This is a post in another forum that I was referencing. Take it as you will - I'm a specialist surgeon and 'self funding' patients are high risk for surgeons and hospitals and this will act as a barrier to your assessment and care. In many cases, surgeons will refuse to see self funding...

Private Health is waste of money

One of the reasons I've heard in favour of getting private cover, which I don't currently have, is that specialists/surgeons will often refuse you treatment if you propose paying yourself, on the basis that a $5,000 procedure may turn into a $50K procedure if something goes wrong during surgery...

As anyone knows, Liberal voting doctors, lawyers, investment bankers and executives love doing physical work and yearn to be tradies or labourers. It's just part of their DNA :S

    Next Liberal leader - 2025

To be fair, those who are willing to follow their conscience have ended up as Teal independents instead of joining the Libs. Ley chose to remain. So that's on her and she is accountable for how she votes.

I hadn't heard of the IPA in years. I really used to loathe them. What are they all about these days? Genuine question.

I'll preface the following with an admission that I don't know the guy, nor do I follow the ins and outs of daily parliament over the whole cycle. But was this guy one of those Greens who blocked housing policy Bills because it wasn't perfect enough? As in, the Greens in the past have let the...

The coalition will never win the federal government again.

My only conclusion is that it's an ideological objection to renewable energy.

ChatGPT said: Obituary: The Liberal Party of Australia (1944–2025) “Died doing what it loved most: ignoring women, young people, and climate change.” It is with equal parts schadenfreude and disbelief that we announce the passing of the Liberal Party of Australia following the 2025 federal...

2025 Federal Election: A Pox o'....Just one of your houses, apparently.

This post is somewhat of a side note, but as time goes by (and as I age) it strikes me that people pay attention less and less to history. It just fades into obscurity.

2025 Federal Election: A Pox o'....Just one of your houses, apparently.

I'd have to go back and discuss with the salesman, but was explained to me in basic terms that the payoff period for just solar, was 6-7 years. If you add a battery, the upfront cost is higher, but the savings are also higher, so roughly nets out. It all differs on individual circumstances, so...

2025 Federal Election: A Pox o'....Just one of your houses, apparently.

Intended length of tenure is a factor for sure. On the other hand, they add value to your house if selling. So many variables! Try starting from scratch with quotes and trying to figure out what system and what specs you need, factoring in rebates, usage, time of usage, and on and on (my...

2025 Federal Election: A Pox o'....Just one of your houses, apparently.

Certainly the asset needs to last a certain amount of time for it to be a viable long term financial option. Somewhere north of ten years. So it's a long game. But what I would say is that it's essentially a risk free return for the period of the standard ten year warranty for inverters.

2025 Federal Election: A Pox o'....Just one of your houses, apparently.

Not sure about that. The ROI on solar is, what, about 15% per year, assuming a 6-7 year payoff period. Invest the cost of the upfront capital instead, and earn, say, 8% minus tax. Then minus the additional power bills over that period and going forward. Are you not worse off financially? Happy...

Is this a two term win?

I'll extrapolate from the WA experience to predict what happens in 2028. The Libs were obliterated in 2021, left with just two lower house members. It was a position they were unable to recover from to be even remotely competitive in 2025. The same will happen federally in 2028. The Libs are...

Rough payoff period is 6-8 years.

2025 Federal Election: A Pox o'....Just one of your houses, apparently.

Just solar, in the region of $7K. With a battery, closer to $17K. However WA state government is introducing a $5K subsidy for batteries on 1 July. Combine that with the ALP's rebate announced during the election, and you're laughing.

2025 Federal Election: A Pox o'....Just one of your houses, apparently.

There's plenty who have solar mate. And their costs in the middle of the day are zero. I'm pretty sure that's a low cost.
