Get a car and drive there yourself A lot of driving is on multi lane roads so the right hand side bit isn't complicated. Corners you need to be a little careful with just to make sure you get to the right side but usually there's other cars so you follow them Sitting on the left hand side of...

Spent 3-4 days there around April several years ago now and was lucky enough to catch a late snowfall so stayed a day longer than we'd originally planned I really liked it - spectacular scenery It's also on the California-Nevada border so you have the weird sight of a relatively normal resort...

I can't offer anything on the eastern side of the US as o haven't been there. My brother had great things to say about North Carolina though if your looking for something outside the big cities Los Angeles isn't a very nice city - San Francisco I think is far more interesting albeit I only...

You will be doing yourself a massive disservice if you don't go the coastline route. It is spectacular and can be done in a day (I did it) but I wish I spread it out over at least two days

Big sur itself is rather small but I, possibly incorrectly, use it to refer to the coastal drive between SF and LA

My memory is that LA to SF in 6 hours would be tough given the number of stops you'd want to make along the way to soak up the scenery. Unless you go inland and not through big sur

The most important thing I found was to make sure you kept pace with the traffic so changing lanes was pretty easy. Also exits are marked well and the line markings change if the lane is an exit only lane ahead giving you plenty of time to change lanes if you don't want to exit

You mean Cab? Worst with a hire car was the first time when it started raining on the interstate just out of the airport and the drivers side windscreen wiper didnt work properly. That was a bit hairy but at least it didn't rain very heavily or for that long. Also got very gently rear ended...

+1 to the car option Both trips I've done we've picked up a hire car at LAX and driven straight away. The first drive on a freeway was pretty daunting (just a tad more traffic in LA than Broome) but once you get used to it it isnt that bad especially with a gps or google maps. The roads over...

You'll need a bank loan for a return taxi trip from Santa Monica to Anaheim - it'll be north of $100 each way easily and don't be surprised if the taxi driver doesn't know the best way to Disneyland. It'll be the same on the way back The first trip I made to the states I got a cab from our...

Driving from Vegas to San Fran you can go via Yosemite NP or head towards the coast and drive along the area known as Big Sur. Either one will be weel worth your while but you won't have time to do both probably. Took me 3 days to drive from San Francisco to Vancouver, stopping overnight at...

Only got to spend two nights in San Fran when we went over there. First night we got there about dark and second night we went to a 49ers game. Got to spend a bit if time around fishermans wharf during the day Would have liked to spend some more time there but time didn't permit as I wasn't...

Personally I'd be reluctant to do a tour, contiki or otherwise. The American country is amazing, even moreso if you get off the interstates that the tours are likely to stick to, and you may very well find yourself wanting to stop and look at places the tours may drive past or linger longer at...

can't help with most of your questions but if you're planning on staying there for a while you should consider buying a car driving around north America is brilliant and I've only done the west coast

Would definitely recommend driving around California etc you may want to check car hire conditions first though as some rental companies won't hire to anyone under 25 or charge a premium for doing so

1 at magic mountain should be enough - from anaheim it's a good hour and a half drive though there's two parks at disneyland and if you don't have kids a day at each would be enough use a day to go to Santa Monica or drive to San Diego and go to Sea World or the zoo - the drive is about two...

Can't beat driving although that will depend on how much time you have and how far apart your preferred destinations are. Last year I drove from LA - San Francisco - Vancouver - Sun Peaks - Japser - Lake Louise - Banff - Las Vegas - LA over about 5 weeks with the wife and 4 kids. Great way to...

Icy is shit. Drove through the Rockies in Canada in January this year and it scares the hell out of you. Driving when it is snowing heavily is no fun either - worst I had was getting passed by a truck doing 100+k's an hour on the interstate in Idaho with fresh snow on the road at night...

Defintely agree with the bolded bits Driving from Vegas to San Francisco - you'll probably want to allow two days for this unless you're happy with a 10+ hour drive. A stopover in Yosemite if you have time will be well worth it. Take the coast road from San Fran to LA - ****ing awesome...
