I hadn't paid much attention to Starcevich before and i wasn't overly enthusiastic about getting him. But having paid more attention to him this finals series it is a clear that he is a massive upgrade on the likes of Cole and Duggan (even as those two guys have been loyal servants). I don't...

Thats kind of bad news if we are planning to draft him and don't want other clubs interfering and bidding on him.

I wonder if there is some chance that if Brisbane win the flag Starcevich gets overwhelmed with the euphoria and does a Dev on us and changes his mind on leaving Brisbane at the last minute.

That makes the decision to give him 3 years look even dumber in hindsight. 3 years for an injury plagued midfielder over 30 who can't play in the midfield anymore because his body can't handle the stresses of it.

If we are offering him that then he would want to be playing ball with us in terms of being willing to go along with PSD threats against Brisbane to give us leverage to get him for not very much.

The exception being if the draft really is crap in the current year. If you look through the history of the draft when it is a bad year it can be really bad. Like only a couple of players after picks 15 - 20 amount to anything.

Apparently another problem with the stadium is that Tasmanian cricket is not happy with what is being proposed as the roof and orientation of the stadium will mean a constant shadow over the pitch on days when the sun is shining which will mean that they don't want to play there.

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Sure. But you have to convince people to want to go there. And it doesn't look like a very happy club at the moment. If you have low morale at the club and are not a contender then it will be very hard to sell yourself. Thats the other thing the Vic articles are missing when they suggest players...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Lots of eastern states media putting out trade scenarios for Merrett resulting in Essendon getting two high first rounders or two first rounders (with one being high) plus a player. They are not going to get that IMO. It's a forced sale. Essendon can't walk away from the table because they have...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Essendon really are stepping on their own dick. Merrett badly wants to go. And they may be really pissed at him and want to get rid of him. But allowing people (including the coach) to go out in the media and bag or attack him and more or less say he won't be allowed back because his team mates...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Ryan Daniels writes a big long article talking about how we need to get tougher and start being more ruthless at the trade table. And his idea for demonstrating this new found ruthlessness is offering Brisbane Pick 19 for Starcevich. That might be around about or a bit over the market value of...

Just reading in FoxSports that 4 of the projected top 6 in the draft are already claimed, three via Northern Academies and one is a F/S. What a joke the draft has become.
  13. D

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

I think F/S can be solved by just making a rule that any club can only claim one player every 5 years under F/S. Over a long enough timeline every club will get a lick of the icecream and get a player out of it. F/S doesn't really compromise the draft much because there are only a couple of them...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

I agree with Essendon in principle on fair value. The problem is how do you determine what that is? Clubs don't want to waste time and incur "Go Home" risks bidding on players already attached to another club and who will probably just ask for a trade back there at the end of their first...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Thanks for the update, Pete. You wade through all the crap on these podcasts and make a nice summary so we don't have to listen to it. No way we let Ryan go for an F3. He is contracted and we can just say No. I would rather they did that than take what is effectively a token draft pick. I am...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

My point is that his body will have been through a lot already. Even if that is not yet showing on the surface yet through games missed because of injury the wear and tear is still going to be there. And the point where it start manifesting and becoming visible via injuries can't be that far...

I didn't say i "wouldn't want him anywhere near our boys", woketard. I said i wouldn't want to give anything more than a late pick for him or sign him for any more than two years.

I am not knocking Neale as a player in any way or saying he would be unwelcome. But he is 32 and has played in a position where he is going to (and has) taken a fair bit of physical contact and run a lot of miles. It's not like he has been cruising around on a half back flank getting easy...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

If the Lions get all 3 of those free agents i wonder if it will create enough of an uproar about how the free agency system isn't working like the AFL said it would and force them to make changes to it? It looks like this season will make an absolute mockery of free agency and the AFL's claims...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Richmond got pick 42 as compensation for Jack Graham. I would put Liam Ryan on a par with Graham. So if we trade him for a second rounder from St Kilda then we are effectively giving him away now for something only very marginally better (by maybe 5 or so spots in the draft better) than what we...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

So thats a pick likely to be anywhere between 25 and 50 in next years draft, likely somewhere around 35. Nowhere near good enough.

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

We might be being a bit harsh on the list management and recruiting team. It would not be easy convincing somebody to move across the country to the wooden spoon club. Especially if they are not from WA to start with. And especially since the trend in the competition is for player traffic to...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

We obviously don't want more picks in this draft for Chesser. Need to be something that upgrades a second rounder into a first rounder this year or Carlton's F2. I think that that is a reasonable ask. They are getting somebody who has had nearly 50 games and 4 years of development invested into...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Whatever draft he would have to go to i would make him do that before accepting a token useless late draft pick for him.
  25. D

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

I would walk him rather than take a 3rd rounder in a crappy draft.

Chesser must be still making up his mind. If he had decided to leave then there is no reason why he wouldn't have already told the club that by now.

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Brisbane clearly lacked somebody who can take a contested mark in the forward line today, or just provide enough of a contest to split packs and stop the interceptors from intercepting. They probably think they are going to get an answer to that in Oscar Allen. But they will be disappointed...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Freo must be pretty disappointed with what they have gotten from Bolton this year given what they gave up to get him and what they are paying him. They paid twice what we did for Baker in order to get Bolton and he will be nowhere near top 5 in their B&F and totally flopped for them tonight...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Happy to trade Ryan. He wants to go whether we like it or not. He is 30 and injury prone and therefore not a key plank in the timeframe we are working on (i.e. 3 - 5 year horizon). He is not worth pick 8. Lets be honest. But he is worth something useable. 3rd rounder in a weak draft is...

Is Ah Chee a free agent? Or just uncontracted but not a free agent? Or is he neither and we would have to be trading for a contracted player and therefore paying a premium?
