    Unfortunately it is very difficult to rehome race greyhounds. They are just so skittish. This means that nearly all of them meet a premature end.

    Unfortunately there is a real problem with integrity in the racing industry at the moment. So while such practices are unethical it is not beyond the realms of possibilities that this is happening. But if you assert this you'd better provide some proof rather than just mere opinion? Regardless...

    Interesting to see Barakey run today. Started well but faded to 11th in the Newmarket. Had 5.5 kgs on the winner but lost by 9 lengths. Not sure how to read his run.

    Will be very interesting to see what he does from here. Certainly didn't look overawed but once Caviar jumped at about 250m was never in the race. The only reason he was close in the end was because BC slowed down. Having said that, he certainly didn't look like he was sweating either.

    It may well be that he is a champion racer and may beat Black Caviar and the like (if he comes up against them). But it is a difficult summation to make based on his form vs her form. Certainly a win this Saturday would bring justifiable hype.

    The real question is how conservative the owners will go. She's got nothing to prove. Except the romantic in me wants to see her stamp her name in history with her last few performances. To beat the odds. Something like the Newmarket with 61.5kg is a legitimate challenge.

    I think the most ridiculous thing about it was the ease she broke the record with. Certainly Nolen didn't let up on her but she was never really out of third gear. I mean she increased her tempo between the 300m-150m marks but really never pushed.

    Spoke briefly to the owner of New York before the race. He was pretty bullish about a win. Didn't get to see them after the race. No doubt disappointed.
