    2nds WAFL Watch - 2025 Edition

One goal on the scoreboard, assisted with two however, and there were another two that were disallowed (the first was brought back to allow the previous goal, the other was called back because it was apparently thrown to him). Needs more time on the ground, and needs more time in his...

No, played mid rotating to the bench with whole midfield.

Otis has been named in the midfield, which is impressive in itself. Hopefully he’ll have a strong WAFL debut.

A lot of young lads went to high school in Adelaide and brought it back. Rugby wasn’t particularly well codified at the time.

ACC is the Association of Christian Colleges I believe. Basically, all private schools that aren’t in the PSA. Much bigger catchment … less cashment.

Still amazed that he's not involved in the WA Combine (which is next Sunday). Plays in the wrong location, in the wrong colours, I'm afraid. Politics.

Just heard that Otis Harvey won the Swan District’s Colts fairest and best with 160 votes. Second place was Luke Cotellessa with 94 votes. Third place was Lucas Andrews with 89 votes.

WAFL Grand Final, All 3 Grades Watch Party, Comments, Sun Sep 22

Funding levels are very different between clubs. Claremont is a rich club, taking players from rich suburbs—it’s an advantage that is difficult to overcome.

Very nice running goal from 50m.

Great game by Swan Districts. Should have won by more. Gave the lead away in the 3rd quarter, but finished strongly. Harvey BOG—with great second and third efforts late in the last quarter. Tough game for them against Claremont next week, but anything can happen.

Swans defence looked very fragile in the second half, with West Perth making plenty of space. It looked like they were going to be overrun, and yet … the Swans managed to get two late and won it. The snap from Cathcart with a few minutes to go (played on from a holding the ball free kick) was...

Too busy getting 189 ranking points versus Subiaco. 24 disposals, 2 goals, 18 kicks, 2 marks, 10 tackles … … but, not playing for Claremont, so it doesn’t count.

State Focus WA 2024 - Western Australia’s junior footy talent

I suspect that it's the players named 'so far' (e.g. missing the additional 5 in the 18's, if they choose to pick anyone else that is).

State Focus WA 2024 - Western Australia’s junior footy talent

Not a bad line up—although, like you say "it may end up like this" (especially given that there appear to be more than 5 not in the 30 named so far). The additional five players are likely to be named soon, so we'll see what the actual list looks like soon enough. I'd be interested in hearing...

Have the 18’s reconvened for training yet? The majority of the side has been named, but I don’t think they’ve trained.

Under-agers get named — but normally not this many.

State Focus WA 2024 - Western Australia’s junior footy talent

I wonder how much they are stacking the squad. Hiding talent they don’t want (or do want) by making sure they aren’t picked in the 18’s. The promise is that they pick the best 17 and 18 year-old draftees in the state. They don’t appear to be doing that.

State Focus WA 2024 - Western Australia’s junior footy talent

Under-agers, generally. This team appears to be about about next year, not this year. An under-ager not picked is disappointed. A draft-year player could very well be finished from an AFL perspective. Over-agers? Well, sure … maybe.

State Focus WA 2024 - Western Australia’s junior footy talent

I can’t explain the number of under-agers. They can’t get drafted this year. It’s very strange.

There are people in the system confused and asking questions, but the mates-and-dollars club is too strong.

I simply don’t understand the number of under-agers.

Two clubs in particular. For clarity: West Coast and Fremantle. Hence, the Claremont love continues.
  28. B3B3

State Focus WA 2024 - Western Australia’s junior footy talent

It’s nepotism and cronyism, plain and simple. Claremont talent is good, but over-represented. Under-agers are very much over-represented. Players are being given reasons for not being selected that they have never heard before. The selection period (pre-season and Colts round 1-3) means...
