Play Nice Which club has the biggest supporter base? Collingwood, Richmond or West Coast?

Depends what you define as a supporter.

Play Nice Which club has the biggest supporter base? Collingwood, Richmond or West Coast?

Carlton and north took a lot of wa players over a long period of time and a lot of supporters who never came over to eagles / dockers stuck with them. That’s why north wanted to play “home games” against the eagles here - they knew they would make bank at a time they were broke af - as well as...

I reckon it would be closer to the eagles way in NT https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%205-y&geo=AU-NT&q=%2Fm%2F064nq,%2Fm%2F0pnlv,%2Fm%2F02sc5,%2Fm%2F0mgcc,%2Fm%2F01r4b4 With port scoring highly in google trends Richmond hands down in qld with the retirees But there’s a...

Funny how that is. Like in gero the 3rd biggest supporter base is the saints. Not a big 4 team.

That’s nice but we aren’t sharing our states population with a stack of other clubs.

    Expansion 3rd Western Australian club

This+ People don’t realise there is such a tiny sparse population outside of perth. Exclude perth and you have half a million folk scattered around a bit of land the size of qld, nsw and vic put together. If theres to be a 3rd team in WA it would have to be when gero or Bunbury became...

Victorian AFL clubs raked in $40m from poker machines last financial year

We can do better. For my money sports clubs should have nothing to do with unhealthy (mentally or physically) products. That includes sports drinks full of sugar.

Well we arseholed ciggy ads despite the doomsayers telling us it would be the end of sport as we know it.

Victorian AFL clubs raked in $40m from poker machines last financial year

I had no idea it was that bad. If id stopped and thought about it a bit it’s pretty obvs with all the non stop gambling advertising rammed down our throats. It’s white noise to me as im a very casual gambler - maybe once or twice a year and a weekly lotto ticket - which I look at as a donation...

Something (well there’s lots of things really) I don’t miss from living in Canberra. Outside of the casino we dont have them here. When we moved to Canberra we went to the local sporting club at Tuggers, we couldn’t believe how cheap and cheerful the food was and that we could buy good wine...

Not saying they dont - but it will come of its own accord once a team emerges. In the meantime…..

But the current stadiums will do till then? I mean it didnt hurt west coast and freo being stuck in subi at 40k when soon after we got optus we cracked 100k members and still have a waiting list capped at 5 years? Im sure the tassie team will love being in choc a block stadiums with a waiting...

Tasmania Congratulations on Tassie License. Mens team to enter 2028. Womens team TBA. Other details TBA 3/5

Was reading an article with gill today telling tasmanians that its the lack of a stadium holding them back from having a tasmanian team. This coming years fixture ought to be interesting. Clearly there cant be any hawf/norf games in tasmania this year or indeed retrospectively - all those...

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

Certainly not 1/18 but suns are always playing someone every week as are gws and more games = more eyes watching ads

Extra tv money from the suns pays for it no tv money = afl pays

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

pretty sure melbourne has things that are better and tassie has its things that are better. like id rather go scuba diving off tassie, if i want to go camping or fishing id rather do it off tassie. Beaches are better. theres plus’ and minus’ each way - depends what you are into - if you grew...

Thats well and good but please put it in a context that explains this:

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

And those stadium deals mean that minnow clubs have a lot less supporters and members eh?

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

riiiight So id imagine that the afl memberships and sponsorship would mean that the big clubs would be getting a much higher disbursement than the small clubs as naturally they would be attracting more followers and be worth more in sponsorship dollars. whats this you say? they arent?
  23. kranky al

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

Thats a handy excuse - probably shouldnt waffle on about melbourne being a footy mad city so much then. perhaps say footy mad as long as its not 5 km away and we would rather watch our team play a bottom 8 victorian team than watch them play a top 8 interstate team … oh and not on sunday...

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

Imagine if 100 year old plus vic teams had to justify their existence on a drip every five years on just half of what the tassie team is being judged on.
  25. kranky al

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

Are you saying : The afl cant just fund north the same as they do eagles/coll/richmond at base and watch them die on their own?
  26. kranky al

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

How does gws go in adelaide or perth? Vic club crowd numbers are always inflated by playing other vic clubs - when you play interstate clubs you see the real figures.
  27. kranky al

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

At the end of the day you avoid players from melbourne and lean towards picking country kids - create a winning culture and they will stay.
  28. kranky al

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

It might be an hour from the biggest and bestest and brightest afl city in the universe but thats the same city that had only 17000 of the supposed 100000 strong tigers members attend a game at a modern well built stadium thats AWAY FROM THEIR NORMAL STADIUM!!! So what relevance 100 km away...

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

This is literally the one club that can produce a heap of its own players from its own region. Afl is run down in tassie but never underestimate the power of playing for a jumper that represents your state in afl heartland. kids will grow up dreaming of playing for a tassie team. So much...
