Rules The AFL has introduced rules that goes against sporting integrity

Not all rules are about fairness. Some are there to make the game more attractive. The AFL brought in rules like the stand rule and the 6-6-6 rule to speed the game up and improve scoring. In the same way that basketball introduced a shot clock and cricket banned overly negative bowling. You...

Rules The AFL has introduced rules that goes against sporting integrity

Probably not those specific rules, because there’s no push for them. But they have played around with the offside rule and the back-pass rule. NFL is extremely prescriptive about who can stand where and who’s allowed to be passed the ball. Cricket has introduced rules about how many fielders...

The West Coast point that hit the goal umpire

Looked to me like it was probably going to hit at least the back of the post anyway, although we don't get the best angle on it in that vision. What year is it from? If Matthew White was playing for Richmond it must have been at least five years ago.

    Luke Shuey Tunelling

As I said earlier, there's no way he can see the ball from his position. He would have had no idea where and when it was coming, just stuck his hand in and hoped for a miracle.

    Luke Shuey Tunelling

Well I explained in detail how I saw the footage and what I thought the explanation was. But your response of "come on, it was clearly this" has obviously trumped me.

    Luke Shuey Tunelling

First time I've seen a replay of it. Would love to know what happened to leave Shuey one-out against a key forward. Think it's a case of Shuey having bugger-all experience of being in that situation and not playing it particularly well. Riewoldt set himself and jumped to take the mark, Shuey...

WCE v Carlton umpiring - a small bit of perspective

Apparently the umpires all being from WA was deliberate as the game coincided with the 60th anniversary of the WA Umpires Association. Consequently Rosebury flew over especially from Melbourne, where he's been living for the past 10 years (I didn't know that).

WCE v Carlton umpiring - a small bit of perspective

"Did he kick it or handball it?" Neither, Warnock knocked it out in the tackle. Add in BT saying "well there was one tackle for each side that could have been paid there". So yeah, another example would be good.

WCE v Carlton umpiring - a small bit of perspective

But they were even last night, or as good as. So what's the real issue?

WCE v Carlton umpiring - a small bit of perspective

How many threads on Joel Selwood's free kick count has there been over the years though?

WCE v Carlton umpiring - a small bit of perspective

The Joseph one in front of goal is the only example I've seen so far. Haven't seen a proper replay but on the big screen at the ground it looked like his teammate was holding it in. The Judd 50 is the other one. Not too many saying the initial free kick wasn't there. The 50 looked soft as, but...

WCE v Carlton umpiring - a small bit of perspective

Carlton had just as many OOFs. That counts as a free against.

WCE v Carlton umpiring - a small bit of perspective

Have to agree with a lot of that. It wasn't a good look that all three umps were from WA. Mate and I were speculating at the game that since the umpires all have other jobs (I think) none were able to get from Melbourne/Adelaide to Perth on a Thursday night.

WCE v Carlton umpiring - a small bit of perspective

Getting two free kicks more than your opponents (when you're getting more contested ball and more inside 50s) is one way umpiring and beyond a joke? Really?

    Duckers Issue

Re: NEWS. Jeff Gieschen: Hawks Player is a Duckers Well I don't disagree with any of that, but I'm still waiting to learn of one head-high free that shouldn't have been paid to us on Sunday.

    Duckers Issue

Re: NEWS. Jeff Gieschen: Hawks Player is a Duckers I meant a head-high free kick obviously. That throw call baffled everyone. Did Giesch get asked to explain it?

Re: NEWS. Jeff Gieschen: Hawks Player is a Duckers Feel free to point out a free kick or two from the weekend that was incorrect then.

    Duckers Issue

Re: NEWS. Jeff Gieschen: Hawks Player is a Duckers Over more than 12 seasons? It averages out to a little over a free kick per game. So on average we're getting about 1.5 free kicks per game more than our opposition. That's pretty damning is it?

    Duckers Issue

Re: NEWS. Jeff Gieschen: Hawks Player is a Duckers He says in that article that every head-high free kick paid to West Coast on the weekend was correctly paid. In fact he says it twice.

    Duckers Issue

Re: Eagles are Duckers - Part II Not going to quote the whole post for readability. You've gone to a massive amount of effort and quoted a whole lot of statistics which only lead to the conclusion that we get a lot more free kicks than we give away. Which everyone already knows...

    Duckers Issue

Re: Eagles are Duckers - Part II Surely these two paragraphs are inconsistent with each other. Nobody is criticising the players but they're getting rewarded with bogus free kicks? And calling us w***ers is highly likely to calm everyone down.

    Naitanui, how many weeks?

Ridiculous if he goes. Both players were contesting the ball, bigger bloke knocked down smaller bloke. Naitanui hadn't even turned to brace himself, obviously no intention to bump Hunt. Free kick and nothing more in my view. So he'll probably get 3 weeks.

Worst umpiring decision you can remember?

It was Tony Evans not Kemp, and that incident was my first thought for this thread as well :(

Geez if Mooney goes for that I'd be bloody disappointed.

    Judd appeal dismissed

Since when has standing beside a pack and attacking an opponent's face and ears ever been a part of football?
  29. Miguel Sanchez

    Judd appeal dismissed

Waaah waah waah. "Once again we are the scapegoats". Don't make me laugh. 99% of the time you're ****ing untouchable. Judd would only have a two week suspension if the powers that be at Carlton realised he was guilty, rather than immediately going "They can't do this to us! We're Carlton!"
