Poo Mega Thread AFL asking Eagles to delay bye so Richmond doesnt need to travel twice to WA

Not sure why this thread’s still going. Decision’s been made, both clubs are ok with it. Start working out what the next block of fixtures is going to look like. Are the Bulldogs going to be allowed in to play us on the 27th, or is that game in doubt?

You should love that argument. On that basis, Geelong perennially get the worst deal of any club - about eight “home” games a year.

Anyone who thinks Margetts favours us clearly hasn’t watched any of his recent games against us.

Yeah look I agree with you, but the perception is “we don’t have a Covid issue here, why are we being made to move things around?” Fans getting locked out of games like Dreamtime at the G and the Western Derby because of outbreaks in those cities was unavoidable. Fans missing a game on a...

Poo Mega Thread AFL asking Eagles to delay bye so Richmond doesnt need to travel twice to WA

I don’t think people are looking at it that closely. The perception is that Richmond get generally looked after in the fixture as it is, and now we’re having to shuffle things round to accommodate them when it doesn’t benefit us to do so. When you step back and look at it, it’s not going to...

One would hope. Odds on it actually happening though?

I think you answered the first part of your question in the second part.

Public transport infrastructure struggles with one footy crowd in a day, two would break it.

Not too sure about the “any time” part, personally. If they move the game to Thursday, four days after we play Carlton in Sydney, solely because the broadcaster wants it in a prime time slot, I’ll be ropable. If they want to move it to Sunday it’s understandable. Saturday would be alright even...

I think Eagles fans would be a lot more willing to accept this if they felt there was any real chance that the AFL would have even considered such a move if the roles were reversed, or would consider some sort of concession in a similar situation down the line.

I don’t think there’s actually any of our players that would be available for the Thursday but not on the Sunday. Shuey, Gov, Kelly, Duggan, Witherden are all listed as 3 or more weeks. Kennedy and Allen should be back for the Tigers game regardless.

I assume there’s some contractual CBA reason why Richmond players need to spend their bye at home. Or at least have that as an option.

Tigers players flying home to Melbourne then back into WA seems like an unnecessary risk with what’s going on over there. If moving the game forward by four days avoids that, then fine. It’ll stuff up some people’s plans but this is Covid times, that happens.
