    VFL competition is a mess

So Frankston's in. Are North and Werribee separating next season? If so what does that do to total numbers?

    VFL competition is a mess

If the AFL reserves did split off into their own comp, could the VFL exist as a 12-team comp with each team affiliated with a TAC Cup side, giving non-drafted kids a natural pathway into a Statewide competition? Something like: Casey - Power Frankston - Stingrays Sandringham - Dragons Port Melb...

    VFL competition is a mess

They don't currently schedule double-headers at the MCG or Etihad, I imagine because they'd be a logistical nightmare. So cramming two games into one ground on a Saturday is presumably not an option. Scheduling every Friday night game in Melbourne in order to accommodate this AFL-free Sunday...

    VFL competition is a mess

No worries mate, when it happens again I'll head down to the VFL ground of your choosing and buy you a beer bigger than your head.

    VFL competition is a mess

The closest thing I stated to a precedent was that at some point prior to 1987, back when footy players had full time jobs, the VFA had Sunday's to themselves. The world's moved on, they won't get that again. I've explained why, pretty fully I think.

    VFL competition is a mess

What problem am I solving? The VFL seems to be sustainable in its current form. The AFL has been playing on Sundays for at least the last 30 years, going back to when it was the VFL with a couple of interstate expansion teams. It's now a billion-dollar entity. You'd have to think the league and...

    VFL competition is a mess

Governments of multiple states aren't going to legislate in order to artificially prop up a second tier Victorian competition. You're dreaming.

    VFL competition is a mess

Which would cause more than a few problems for the AFL in scheduling the three Sunday games a week they're contractually obliged to provide...

Box Hill gets approval for McEvoy

Assuming they do it the way the WAFL's always done it, finals qualification only comes into it when the AFL side isn't playing, otherwise it's the same as any other week ie the blokes not picked in the senior 22 play ressies

Box Hill gets approval for McEvoy

His AFL side is competing and he wasn't selected, so he's playing in the reserves. Thought it was more of an issue last week to be honest.

Bad News for Aussie Jones and Footy in Bendigo?

Any chance that one of the stronger Bendigo FL clubs could be admitted to the VFL? That model seems to have worked brilliantly with North Ballarat. Don't know much about the Bendigo clubs but just going off results maybe South Bendigo or Sandhurst would be candidates?

    VFL competition is a mess

Is it a Bulldogs home game? Apparently Footscray are trying to make Simonds a "home away from home"

    VFL competition is a mess

Wasn't the VFA in a fair bit of financial strife before the AFL did away with its reserves comp though?

    VFL competition is a mess

Box Hill won the VFL last year, not that that changes your overall point much. East Perth (WCE's reserves side) are travelling pretty well in the WAFL but aren't dominating, and Peel (Freo's reserves) are yet to win a game. I'd love to see a reserves comp come in, but would the VFL survive if...
