Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case That survey comes out 60-40 in favour of Maxwell. Closer to my guess (50-50) than 80-20. And it's on a Melbourne-based paper's website, so I'd expect a fair few Pies fans to have voted. No thanks, I'm getting a wide-enough cross-section of views in...

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case I don't think it's anywhere near that. Feel free to start a poll though.

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case There are plenty of bumps each week without head clashes occurring. To me that indicates that Maxwell executed it improperly, not that he was just unlucky as some are suggesting. But you're right, I've played little footy and certainly not at any...

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case True. But plenty of others have said they agree with the tribunal's decision. If you held a poll of non-Collingwood fans (and non-Eagles fans, to be completely fair) I reckon it'd come out 50/50. I will say for the third time that I shouldn't have...

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case It's my opinion, based on my interpretation of the tribunal and MRP's rulings. I deal with this sort of thing in my job, for what that's worth. Because he didn't properly execute a hip and shoulder. If he had then his head wouldn't have hit his...

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case To be fair, the majority of posters that were responding to me are Collingwood fans. To their credit, they're arguing the rules as opposed to you throwing around emotive 'fluff' like 'injustice', 'the tribunal is run by morons' etc. I think I've made...

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case The MRP's report on afl.com.au just says it was assessed as negligent, high impact and high contact, and goes into the points. Doesn't say why it was assessed as negligent.

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case I've said earlier that it has nothing to do with it and I shouldn't have mentioned it.

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case Geez I'm popular all of a sudden! Accidental head clashes are not being outlawed. Properly executed hip and shoulders are not being outlawed. At most, the tribunal is saying that if you hip and shoulder someone and your head clashes with theirs...

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case Quite easily. A perfectly-executed bump that results in your opponent having a dislocated shoulder is not going to draw a suspension as a result of this. A perfectly-executed bump that results in your opponent falling over, striking a teammate's knee...

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case I'd suggest that a properly and perfectly executed bump doesn't involve your head hitting your opponent's head.

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case I'm not sure whether that's an actual quote from the Match Review Panel, or a journalist's interpretation of the decision. I suspect it's the latter.

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case Nothing, and I probably shouldn't have mentioned it to be honest. The court's still going to apply the AFL's rules, not common-law negligence principles.

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case The Age's article indicated that Maxwell could have been ordered to serve the ban in the season proper, not the NAB Cup. So potentially the appeal could lead to that I guess. I don't think they could give him extra weeks.

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case Fair enough. I would argue that he was negligent in not executing the bump in a manner that ensured his head didn't snap forward and clash with McGinnity's head, which was his evidence of what happened. I think people are being a little over-dramatic...

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case You could've quoted my whole post for context. "The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points)" Which part of that do you disagree with?

Re: Collingwood to appeal Maxwell case He ran past the ball, shirtfronted an 18-year old kid in his first game and broke his jaw. It was a deliberate bump, he clearly got him high (hence the broken jaw) ... what are the grounds for the appeal exactly?
