MRP / Trib. De Goey hit on Elijah Hewett

I viewed it as dumb rather than dirty. Not sure which is worse tbh. Must be frustrating as a Pies supporter to lose one of your best players for 3-4 weeks because he decided to iron out the 22nd guy picked on the 18th placed team while 4 goals up. What a moron.

    Zac Merrett tackle

For years now, most tackles where a player has the arms pinned and is slung, dumped or otherwise brought to ground and hits their head have been getting at least a week when the player gets concussed or has to come off for treatment. If the player got up and played on then the tackler had...

    Will Day Dangerous Tackle?

They've left a bit of wriggle room in the word "essentially".

    Will Day Dangerous Tackle?

Be interesting to see how players adapt their tackling style. You still need to wrap up the arms, so the only way to guarantee protecting their head is to try keep them upright and just act as a deadweight? Might start to see more ankle/knee injuries as legs get caught up/fallen on etc.

    Will Day Dangerous Tackle?

Watching the video, I can see 2 actions in the tackle. I get that Day had to lunge to get his arms around him, but he doesn't just hang on from there and let gravity do all the work. It looks to me like he adds to the momentum of his lunge by shifting the weight of the tackle to his right...

    Burton and Broad tackles

As per the rules, it needs to be a "reportable offence" before you get to the "potential to cause injury" consideration. Bumping a player in the side/body in a contest, with no direct or incidental contact to the head, is not and has never been a reportable offence.

MRP / Trib. Eric Hipwood to tribunal - Result $2500 fine

I'm OK with the decision. He's entitled to defend his space, it just so happened that the umpires path was converging with theirs. But in the same breath he knew the umpire was there and a collision might occur.

Paddy Ryder bump on Will Day

He didn't have to bump I reckon an attempted smother was a reasonable option. He's got reach on him. I don't think he would have got the ball but he may have put him off more/affected the kick. If he's reaching low and across for the ball he's not going to collect him high. A down field free at...

MRP / Trib. How many Weeks for Rioli?

My guess is that if Rioli doesn't turn and instead goes full blooded for the mark, then his raised knee goes straight through Rowell's face. But we'll never know.

MRP / Trib. How many Weeks for Rioli?

I understood you were saying in your previous post that the decision was so bad the people making it must have the IQ of geese. Your argument for suspension can't be that strong if it is based on assumptions (e.g. Rioli's knowledge, where he was looking, etc) rather than indisputable evidence...

MRP / Trib. How many Weeks for Rioli?

Bit harsh on the Tribunal there. When you take into account all of the circumstances and available evidence, I just don't see how the "was it a marking contest/genuine attempt on the ball" question is as clear cut as most are making it out to be. I can see reasonable arguments on both sides...

MRP / Trib. How many Weeks for Rioli?

Gonna have to disagree with you that Robinson stopped. I'd say he was in the process of stopping, but still moving.

MRP / Trib. How many Weeks for Rioli?

They viewed the Rioli incident as a marking contest, and they seem to give those more leeway. Robinson was also slightly later to the contest than Rioli - his opponent had clear hands on the ball when Robbo was still a metre away. Not much in that though as it probably amounts to mere...

MRP / Trib. How many Weeks for Rioli?

This one isn't a great example as there was no clear contact to Rowell's head. I suspect the lack of concussion/injury to Rowell has more to do with his arm/shoulder/chest absorbing the impact. That said he is a tough mofo and I wouldn't be surprised to see him bounce back up even if he copped...

MRP / Trib. Holeman and Plowman both Given 2 Weeks WTF

Not sure I would say he jumped. When you are running full flight there are periods where both feet are in the air.

MRP / Trib. Holeman and Plowman both Given 2 Weeks WTF

What do you mean? My point on timing is that if he was a half second earlier he would have been able to safely spoil/mark the footy, or if he was a half second later he would have been able to avoid an uncontrollable collision. As it was, he got his timing wrong and found himself in no man's...

MRP / Trib. Holeman and Plowman both Given 2 Weeks WTF

Plowman was going for the ball initially, realised at the last second he wouldn't get there, and braced to protect himself. Ended up looking more like a bump than a spoil/attempted mark. You might ask "What is he supposed to do?" and I guess the answer is he needs to get his timing right.

    Mitch Duncan on Aaron Hall

He jumps up to smother and turns his body to protect himself from copping the ball in the face/front of his body, and also to look at where the ball goes. Ends up colliding back first with Hall, who is also airborne. He clearly wasn't trying to bump him, so just an accident for mine.

MRP / Trib. Mark Keane trip on Josh Kennedy

Saw JK go down, hobble all the way to the bench, and then they told him he couldn't come off so he had to turn around and make his way back to FF lol

    Hawkins - How many

Hawkins is off balance, executing a handball and is being tugged by May. On the other hand, his elbow is higher and wider than I'd expect it to be after a handball. Then again, it's not an ordinary handballing position. Maybe that's where the elbow usually ends up in those circumstances. On...

    Moved Thread Zac Williams bump

Jumping as he bumped was very silly and may cost him a week. Or he might just get a fine. It's one of those ones where I don't think Blues fans would be outraged if he cops a week, and I don't think Saints fans would be outraged if he gets off.

Should the AFL invest in HD, slow-motion goal line cameras?

This is an important point and is hardly ever talked about. At ground level, the ball needs to be past the padding on the post to be a score. But once you get above the level of the padding all of a sudden the field shrinks by an inch on each side and you use the post as the line. :drunk:

    Held Without Possession

The good umpires tend to let the holding in these situations linger longer than others. But there needs to be some sort of limit obviously.

Live Event Toby Greene fronts the tribunal - Suspension appeal

Well, then the Tribunal/Appeals Board would need to be satisfied that Neale's evidence is not credible. And it sounds like the AFL's silk didn't do a good enough job in cross examination on that one.

Live Event Toby Greene fronts the tribunal - Suspension appeal

Everyone keeps saying that the footage conclusively shows that Greene's hand/fingers made contact with Neale's "eye region". I can't agree with that because the footage is front-on. You need a side-on view to conclusively show contact. When you add to this that Neale's evidence is that he...

Hawkins off the ball hit, weeks or finals discount?

It's hard to fully understand what Hawkins is saying he was trying to do without being there in person and hearing his evidence. But it doesn't read convincingly at all.

Hawkins off the ball hit, weeks or finals discount?

It will be interesting to see what he says he was trying to do with his swinging arm. And as to sling tackles - don't think I'm quoting the rules. I'm definitely not doing that.

Hawkins off the ball hit, weeks or finals discount?

Selwood wasn't injured though, or off for any longer than usual period, which is my point - sling tackles only get a week if there is an injury. I'm not saying I agree with it, it's just the way it is. And Schofield going off or not is not relevant to Hawkins' charge, you should know that if...
