Tasmania Congratulations on Tassie License. Mens team to enter 2028. Womens team TBA. Other details TBA 3/5

I actually like the lack of a roof. One of the advantages QLD teams get is being accustomed to the heat & humidity, which gives us a bit of an edge (especially early and late in the season) with visiting teams. The idea of Tassie being able to do the same with cold, wintery nights has some...

The AFL wants 22 teams. Name your next four.

Wouldn't be shocked to see a second Brisbane team at some stage in the next couple of decades. Once the new Gabba is built and Olympics infrastructure has revolutionised the city a fair bit, it would make sense to have a North Brisbane/Sunshine Coast team (with a training base somewhere like...

Sounds like Hawthorn might be on board after all:

Reckon you can comfortably put our Chairman Andrew Wellington down as a yes. Chris Fagan has been one of the key movers in the whole Tasmania chat for a while and well and truly has Wellington on board.

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

Busses are the only public transport option to get to the Gabba in Brisbane (the Cross River Rail trainline will open in a few years, but up until now it has only been busses) and that hasn't impacted cricket/footy crowds here at all. Granted, we do have a very good busway network which helps...

    Tassie

If you were drawing up a competition from scratch (and assumed similar Aussie Rules interest nationwide), I think you'd probably aim to have: 4 QLD teams (Gold Coast, Brisbane South, Brisbane West - Ipswich/Springfield etc, and Brisbane North-Sunshine Coast). 5 NSW teams (Newcastle, North...

Tasmania Congratulations on Tassie License. Mens team to enter 2028. Womens team TBA. Other details TBA 3/5

Considering the course the climate is predicted to go over the next 50 years, I think Tasmania will become an increasingly attractive place for people to live by the middle of this century.

AFL announces 4.5billion, 7 year media deal (2025-2031 inclusive)

If any move back to Ten means that Quartermain, Hudson, and Whateley could be the main footy callers in the country, that would be an enormous win for all of us. Seven could compete with Ten's roster initially with Bruce & Dennis, but their commentary offering now is really quite embarrassing...

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

I thought part of the pitch was a new stadium built near the centre of Hobart. Is that just mooted rather than a formal proposal at this point? Would make a heap of sense to include if at all possible. I'm sure cricket would get on board with any venture like that too.

The only source of this article is Tom Browne's report on 7 tonight though, so not additional confirmation at all. The Herald Sun have a slightly different take: Tassie future: Carter report to recommend state deserves AFL club

    Split Tasmanian AFL Team

Does it beat the plum sauce they have there? That was a life highlight. I'll definitely add it to the list for when I'm back in town though.

    Split Tasmanian AFL Team

I was a little sceptical until I took a trip down to Tassie last year in July. The footy culture there is only rivalled in Melbourne in my opinion. Was wearing my Lions jumper around the place and got many comments, and everyone seemed up for a footy chat. I think there needs to be a team...

What if there was no NRL?

League won't die, both can co exist. But AFL has by far the better model in terms of pretty much everything (especially equalisation - until the NRL re-introduces a draft and a regulated player movement system, it will continue to have big issues). Subjectively it's a more attractive game to me...
