  1. Last of the Roys

    Retired Mitch Robinson (2014-2022)

It seems like it should be a two horse race between Robbo and Zorko. I have Zorko finishing slightly ahead, but who knows?
  2. Last of the Roys

    Delisted Jed Adcock (2003-2015)

It's a pity he didn't end up a one club player. Circumstances seemed to conspire to stop it happening. Both parties probably could have done more to come to an agreement at the time. We certainly could have used his experience this year in retrospect, even given he was clearly passed his best...
  3. Last of the Roys

    Delisted Sam Skinner (2015-2020)

Very unlucky for Skinner to be named in the team for his first game and then have to withdraw due to injury: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-07-29/knee-setback-delays-young-lion-sam-skinners-debut
  4. Last of the Roys

    Delisted Claye Beams (2009-2018)

I wonder what we will do with Claye Beams given he has injured his knee yet again? He has now played just 45 games in 6 seasons, averaging just 7.5 games a year and with a high of 13 games in 2014. http://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/C/Claye_Beams.html Apparently he is contracted to the...
  5. Last of the Roys

    Retired Archie Smith (2013-2021)

Saw this on the Lions Twitter feed from the other day. Looks like he will definitely play seniors before the end of the year.
  6. Last of the Roys

    Past Chris Johnson (1994-2007)

God I love CJ. He was my last favourite player at Fitzroy and always a favourite at his time at the Lions. He is also the main reason behind my Bigfooty name being the last Fitzroy player to play in the AFL. Such a nice person as well and clearly really well suited to footy development.
  7. Last of the Roys

    Past Michael Conlan (1977-1989)

Really great Open Mike with Micky Conlan. God it would be great to get him down to the Lions at the moment and speak of all of the training and effort that he and his Fitzroy team mates put in despite having the worst facilities in the league - and how they paid off for them. I would really...
  8. Last of the Roys

    Injury Injury Watch

I can't remember where I read it, but I think he had a clean out 1-2 months ago. Apparently he should be fine for round 1.
  9. Last of the Roys

    Past Marcus Ashcroft (1989-2003)

I think the guy in the WA jumper is Ben Allan (Hawthorn / Freo) [but yeah he does have a touch of the Fev look to him in that photo]. The photo is from the early '90's I think. Good to see a couple of other guys in it with links to the Lions (Fitzroy side of things) - Roos obviously, but also...
  10. Last of the Roys

    Traded Stefan Martin (2012-2020)

    Really? What's his PHD in?
  11. Last of the Roys

    Traded Tom Cutler (2013-2019)

I agree, but I actually think Jed was wrong about it - our forward line was pretty crowded at the time, but the space opened up for Cutler to take a shot from 50m, which I thought was the best option.
  12. Last of the Roys

    Retired Mitch Robinson (2014-2022)

Yet another fantastic game from Robbo. He must now be half a chance to win our Best and Fairest this year. At the moment I would have him in 3rd spot, but he is coming home with a rush.
  13. Last of the Roys

    Traded Stefan Martin (2012-2020)

Seriously if this it then we need to get someone on to this to sort it out. Pay for her to move up to QLD, find them a house, find her a job - crisis over.
  14. Last of the Roys

    Traded Pearce Hanley (2007-2016)

How about we put them all on the rookie list?
  15. Last of the Roys

    Delisted Ryan Harwood (2009-2017)

Must just be a mistake, he is definitely injured / pretty sure his season is over.
  16. Last of the Roys

    Traded Dayne Beams (2014-2018)

It was reported somewhere (can't remember where) that the Club had wanted Beams to go in for surgery a week or two ago, however it was Beams himself that wanted to play on to help out the team.
  17. Last of the Roys

    Senior Harris Andrews (2014-) (Co-Captain)

Was great yesterday, outstanding really. By the way, a few times on the commentary they called him 'the Kid' given he is so young (and looks it, in his face at least). I think it should be his nickname - let's make it happen!!!
  18. Last of the Roys

    Delisted Jed Adcock (2003-2015)

Great press conference from Jed, just read some of his answers on the Lions website. He clearly loves the Club and wants to play on at the Lions.
  19. Last of the Roys

    Delisted Jed Adcock (2003-2015)

Surely Jed is carrying an injury. He has looked very slow this year and the shift in roles hasn't helped either. He has been OK at times, but has struggled to have much input throughout games. You don't just get rid of a 200 game former captain at the drop of the hat, especially when our list...
  20. Last of the Roys

    Injury Injury Watch

I am so over the number of foot stress fractures our players get. Surely this is something we could actively monitor far more closely for all of our players / get much improved results than just waiting until a player feels sore. Remember when we had the best medical / off-field fitness team in...
  21. Last of the Roys

    Retired Mitch Robinson (2014-2022)

Disappointing he is injured - he has been arguably one of our best players for the last few weeks.
  22. Last of the Roys

    Traded Lewis Taylor (2013-2019)

While the article / headlines are blunt (and you could argue unfair for a second year player), there is no doubt in my mind that Taylor's continual short kicks and always looking for a side-ways / backwards option have meant he is not being effective at all lately (despite the effort he puts...
  23. Last of the Roys

    Injury Injury Watch

Just to correct myself, there was a report on Monday that Beams was cleared of any damage to his shoulder. However, in the BUPA Recovery report, Burton said that So it looks like he should actually have been listed as a 'test'. http://www.lions.com.au/news/2015-06-23/recovery-report-rd13
  24. Last of the Roys

    Injury Injury Watch

Beams got cleared of any damage to his shoulder. Although Nick Robbertson should have been listed as 2 weeks according to the reports from yesterday.
  25. Last of the Roys

    Past Tom Rockliff (2008-2017)

He is actually down to 1-2 weeks according to the Lions own injury list. http://m.lions.com.au/news/news/bupa-health-centre
  26. Last of the Roys

    Retired Matthew 'Goose' Maguire (2009-2015)

It can't be a good thing to still be having problems from a concussion so long after the event. You would have to think that he would be seriously considering retirement given the stage he is at in his footy career. It would be good if the Club could update us on exactly what is going on though...
  27. Last of the Roys

    Delisted Nicholas Robertson (2013-2019)

Another big thumbs up for Robertson's game tonight. He might want to do a bit of working on his kicking (as the scrubber king), but my god have you seen a second year player play with more aggression and intensity at the ball? (Perhaps not since one J. Brown in 2001). And how about his 'DON'T...
  28. Last of the Roys

    Traded Matthew Leuenberger (2006-2015)

I am not that concerned about Leuy's marking ability. He is just one of those players that will often juggle a contested mark - he is by no means alone in that. In fact the majority of players in the AFL do the same - it is only the very best that can one grab a mark in a contest. Something...
  29. Last of the Roys

    Senior Harris Andrews (2014-) (Co-Captain)

In his first senior game as a defender, Andrews had a virtually unprecedented 3 contested marks among his 7 total marks. Both figures were equal best on the ground. I have hardly seen any defender, let alone someone in his fourth game, be so confident about marking the ball under pressure.
  30. Last of the Roys

    Past Tom Rockliff (2008-2017)

At the game yesterday it was clear as day that Rocky is still struggling to run properly after his punctured lung - in terms of speed and stamina. Obviously he was never a speedy player to say the least, but it has clearly set his fitness back a fair bit. I read somewhere a few weeks ago what I...
