  1. The Flying Belgian

Traded Zimmorlei Farquharson to the Dogs

That was one story. There have been hints here and there (especially early on) that she wasn't as dedicated as the club would have liked. She also seemed quite close to Jessie Wardlaw and possibly that departure hit her a bit. What's the truth? Could easily be a combination of the three.
  2. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

Clubs absolutely feel the pulse of the supporters for this stuff - how fans are reacting on social media, etc. Otherwise, they'd just keep their mouths shut. But that was probably poorly worded on my part. It's not a bluff. If they don't like the deal, there will be no trade. But they only have...
  3. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

How and why do you think journos report on stories at this time of year. Are you assuming people $250,00/yr simply have loose lips? I'd assumed you'd been through a few trade periods.
  4. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

No venting needed my man. I love how predictable it all is.
  5. The Flying Belgian

Besides that, it's a nothing bluff, designed to let all the Bulldogs supporters puff out their chest and feel all tough. Overlooking the fact they don't have the power to send him anywhere, all it's saying is that if a trade doesn't happen, a trade won't have happened.
  6. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

Hilarious. He's a better footballer when it suits. At least Hopper can hit a target half the time. Taranto is kick of the hack kick.
  7. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

You don't think Lobb is worth 21? Pony up, man!
  8. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

Like any other club wouldn't be doing the same in our position. Like your own club isn't trying to maximise it's own own position in this draft period.
  9. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

I think you're talking about cutting off your nose to spite your face. As much as your list managers are talking about the PSD as an option, they will already be quietly planning on who they'll draft or draft for with those picks. Not having them is just going to make their own jobs way harder.
  10. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

I'd say we are operating in extremely good faith. Ashcroft committed to us first so we have been operating so we can safely match a bid for him first We are also committed to Fletcher, but there would be limits to the bid we would match on him and we would have communicated that to him. That...
  11. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

Man, I'd forgotten all about Collingwood's phony deadline in the Beams trade all those years ago. Bulldogs going very poor in the confected drama stakes. A leak to journos saying the two parties are a fair way apart? Pfft, amateurs. But all in all, I'm enjoying this thread very much. The idea...
  12. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

Or, y’no, both clubs are talking to each other and working professionally, in contrast with nuffies on SM throwing their toys out of the cot.
  13. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

$600K is probably in the top third of band 3, but McStay being 27 rather than 26 would be a deciding factor. I don't think $650K/yr wouldn't done it either. The sticky thread on this board with rules and regs around drafts, FA and trading spells it all out.
  14. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

$600K was the rumoured amount. Number of years doesn't seem to come into it. AFL would've had to do some serious tweaking to their formula for Band 2.
  15. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

Absolutely Dunkley is a better player. If we'd been in a position to land Bowes and the pick 7 that is mooted to be part of that deal, I'd be happy with sending that along with the later pick finagling. But we're not in that position. Both sides know the risk of not doing a deal. For us, it's...
  16. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

Trying to answer truthfully, would you have been happy with your club giving up that much for Taranto, a guy who, sure, can win the ball but has abysmal disposal efficiency?
  17. The Flying Belgian

    Traded Josh Dunkley - [Traded with F3 (Melb), F3 to Brisbane for #21, F1, F2, F4 (Geel)]

I think anyone using the Taranto trade as a measuring stick is going to be let down slightly. Most observers would concur it's overpaying and the full value of the trade must be assessed as the sum of Hopper and Taranto, with again most observers putting Hopper at a level slightly above that of...
  18. The Flying Belgian

Just re-quoting this one. Quality reference for us genXers.
  19. The Flying Belgian

    Recommitted Deven Robertson [OOC 2023]

As you'd undoubtedly know, most Vic journos know jack shit about clubs outside Victoria but try to pretend otherwise. I'm surprised he even knows who he is. He's clearly just gone to Footywire to find out. He's contracted for next season.
  20. The Flying Belgian

    Brisbane priority pick

In terms of priority pick, sure. Draft assistance is about helping with the competitiveness of a team, not about helping it to win a flag. If people want to start talking about mean ladder positions or finals over a period of time I'll start to listen abut more.
  21. The Flying Belgian

    Brisbane priority pick

Because draft assistance isn't about success, it's about not being total shit. Because there was not heaps of money tied up in the game. Like it or not it's a reality that fans need to have hope in their teams to drive revenue not only within the club itself but in the wider market for tv...
  22. The Flying Belgian

    Brisbane priority pick

Why are premierships the metric to rule them all?
  23. The Flying Belgian

    Brisbane priority pick

I dunno, under the old scheme our results over the last 2 years would have been ground alone. Paired with the retention problems we've faced, I think there's grounds. TBH, I'm split on whether we need one. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to riot if we do!
  24. The Flying Belgian

    Brisbane priority pick

So, is your argument that if a measure isn't enough to help,it shouldn't be considered at all? OK, then the first 5 picks in the draft and a 100-game player from each club. Seriously, we have many problems. Some have been addressed, some are being addressed and some have yet to be addressed.
  25. The Flying Belgian

Traded James Aish [traded to Collingwood for #26 and St Kilda's 2016 second round pick]

Unless you can find where he did give indication he wanted to leave that statement is correct.
  26. The Flying Belgian

Traded Dayne Beams and pick 67 traded for picks 5 and 25, and Jack Crisp

I was going to say use your brain and think about that for a second, but... We offered 5 + 25 for Beams and 21 for Christensen, yet we're supposed to have declined a deal the would have seen not only give up those picks, but get a couple back. Nice work Einstein. Besides, weren't the Beams and...
  27. The Flying Belgian

Traded Dayne Beams and pick 67 traded for picks 5 and 25, and Jack Crisp

Hang on, let me get this straight... We give up pick 5, 21 & 25 and get back Beams and Christensen? Um, how it that different to what we were offering? I call bullshit. I'm amazed how gullible people are to every little report in both old and new media. Wait, no I'm not.
  28. The Flying Belgian

Traded Dayne Beams and pick 67 traded for picks 5 and 25, and Jack Crisp

Fair enough. Call it the vocal minority then.
