    Courtney Johns.. What's he done?

Hey guys, hope you don't mind an intrusion, but was reading the threads in anticipation of this weekend's game and got stuck reading this thread. A lot of the comments I've read here remind me of the deabte we had about Daniel Merrett last year. Now, I'm not comparing the two. Johns appears...

    Mal Michael PSD ?

I'm not sure why. You break a contract mid-way without going through the normal channels (i.e. trading) then you're effectively retiring, unless the contract is dissolved by both parties knowing full well the player will be entering the draft with it's former clubs best wishes. This is where it...

    Mal Michael PSD ?

If you want to look at it simply, with concepts like morals and ethics, then yes, I'd agree. Again, let me say I don't think Essendon did anything more than seize on an oppurtunity. It's the dissolution of Mal's contract with the Lions and the reason for that that's the issue IMO. Forget what...

    Mal Michael PSD ?

A very level-headed approach to the situation and you raise some good points. The one I've bolded is incorrect however - Mal was very much a required player, but if he really wanted to be traded we would have entertained it. In Mal's own words he didn't seek a trade because he though all club...

    Mal Michael PSD ?

Nope, not an easy one. To be honest, I wished we'd been able to tailor his training commitments, but I can resepct why we didn't do that also. Have to just wait and see I guess.

    Mal Michael PSD ?

Possibly, especially being so young and contract not worth so much. But, in our shoes, do you reckon it's fair? The hardest thing is I don't really know who to be legimately pissed off at. I understand where Mal's coming from, but in my book if you retire mid-contract them you're retired...

    Mal Michael PSD ?

I meant more with the option of the AFL not registering the contract. Surely anyone can see the potential minefield this opens up. What would you think if Dempsey had up and left citing homsickness and just wanting to play footy with his mates, then signed with us, then signed with us in the PSD...

    Mal Michael PSD ?

I doubt they could prove anything anyway, but the concept of players "retiring" mid-contract citing lack of desire/motivation, then being drafted somewhere else is all a bit dodgy. A bit like in the NRL with the Steve Turner/Gold Coast Titans business ATM, I don't imagine the AFL would be...

    Mal Michael PSD ?

If he was out of contract, no problem. But he and Lions severed a contract part-way through to "retire", which would present the AFL with a conundrum. Would I be correct in saying this is a loophole which has not yet been tested? Do the AFL have the option of not registering the contract?

    Official Draft and Trade thread

Rischitelli has re-signed. Let the cat out of the bag in a pre-game interview yesterday at the ground.
