Restricted Free Agent Oscar Allen - intends to join Brisbane under free agency

What's the difference? The meeting still happens whether you see it or not. And it's not like he called the media informing them to come on down and have a sticky.

Restricted Free Agent Oscar Allen - intends to join Brisbane under free agency

With the public maybe. Clubs know these kind of things happen all the time - every club does it. Granted, they don't usually involve the skipper...

Restricted Free Agent Oscar Allen - intends to join Brisbane under free agency

So, a similar advantage other clubs have had who have had a decent proportion of players from their home state? That's one of the main reasons for the existence of the benefits of the academy. And it was the thinking behind the increased salary cap we had back in the day (which all clubs...

Have you been following this league for long?

Restricted Free Agent Oscar Allen - intends to join Brisbane under free agency

I'm saying you're basing arguments on what you've heard on the grapevine or even reported. But the compensation formulae are, has been pointed out by all and sundry, effectively a dark market. So you're never going to "know", you're going to assume. And whatever you assume, you'll likely be...

Restricted Free Agent Oscar Allen - intends to join Brisbane under free agency

Again, it's an assumption what's been rumoured for contracts for both players is correct. I've never heard firm amounts, but the only thing I hear is that our guys are usually on less that what scuttlebutt suggests and our contracts tend to value length over dollars - it doesn't seem to be about...

Restricted Free Agent Oscar Allen - intends to join Brisbane under free agency

A number of factors, but the most important is having the right people running the club. Ever since Swann and more importantly Noble came on board we don't go splashing out money willy-nilly like we used to. It only takes an extra $50K pa on the majority of contracts to get into trouble, which...

Restricted Free Agent Oscar Allen - intends to join Brisbane under free agency

Just because we have the money available means we should toss it around? Ten years ago, that's absolutely how this club would have behaved. Now, not so much.

Game Day 2022 AFL Draft - Round 1 tonight! Coverage starts 7PM AEDT - Picks from 7:25

From my limited knoweldge, we weren't planning on using any more draft picks anyway.

    2016 Draft Rumours

Seems to be it's really just the supporters talking themselves into it. Not sure about any "whispers". There's talk of Robert Shaw being an influence, but I doubt Dodoro would be swayed. He'll know who he wants.

Brisbane targeting a huge name key forward at end of 2015

He actually put his hand up to be part of it. Always had a very good relationship with Simon Black. But no, can't see it happening really.

30 players to watch in 2015

You're a Melbourne supporter complaining about legalised cheating? And hilarity ensued... You said it yourself, we (clubs in non-traditional markets) have disadvantages and this is a way to try and even that up. I think Keays will most likely slide down in the ranking as most have in the past...

AFL Destroying the Father and Son

That was coming from a fairly low base and they're still $200M off the AFL. That's a lot of coin. And you'd be nuts to think if the Storm folded that amount wouldn't be affected.

AFL Destroying the Father and Son

So you don't think that exposure in QLD and NSW has driven the money gained by media rights right up, money that you get back from the AFL?

AFL Destroying the Father and Son

You do realise that the advertising, sponsorship and media rights dollars that flow into ALL clubs are heightened because of the games push into non-traditional states? Your club receives more money because of the potential audiences in NSW & Qld. All clubs receive money from the AFL. Even...

Bit of a thread-killer this one. I notice no one has tried to argue against it.

    Thoughts on Your Teams Draft

I reckon Ramsay will be talked in years to come as an inspired selection. Would certainly be attracting a lot more attention had he played a full season.

    Draft Televised?

Anyone know when the actual draft occurs, not just when the coverage starts? Safe to assume half an hour later?

    Drafted out of nowhere

Jack Redden was not on many peoples radar until the week before the draft. At least in BF terms.
  25. The Flying Belgian

    Your clubs Rookie upgrades

Niall McKeever and Mitch Golby are most likely. At least one will be upgraded. We've got Staker out LTI all year, so they might leave one as a rookie and give him that spot at the start of the year.
  26. The Flying Belgian

    Tippett on the table

Correct me if I'm wrong, but your club has said he isn't on the table. Brisbane has caetgorically stated those players won't be traded. Subtle difference.
  27. The Flying Belgian

Confirmed Trade: Mitch Clarke to MELBOURNE for Pick 12.

Where? Quayle writes Brisbane were still considering Freo's latest proposal.
  28. The Flying Belgian

Confirmed Trade: Mitch Clarke to MELBOURNE for Pick 12.

Amusing. Yeah, he obviously didn't want to go to Melbourne. After all, it's not like he has to be a willing party. Go back and troll the bay.
  29. The Flying Belgian

Confirmed Trade: Mitch Clarke to MELBOURNE for Pick 12.

Not accepting and refusing are two different things. Obviously it paid off for us. If we'd have accepted (assuming that the Hun's usual tradeweek BS was actually true) we'd have got a poorer result.
