    2023 Music

Geese - 3D Country. Sounds a bit like The Strokes wigging out.

    Midnight Oil- relevant anymore?

Finally got around to listening to it. Yeah, not a fan. I don't begrudge Garrett for taking the road he took. I'm sure he would be the first to agree he wasn't able to affect change in the way that he hoped. But I'm not one to take pot shots from the cheap shots and it doesn't change how I view...

Avalanches new album rumoured to be released as early as today

So they're sampling video now too?

Avalanches new album rumoured to be released as early as today

You've basically shitting on it before even listening to it which is just as bad. And I can't really figure out why. SILY is in my top 5 albums and I've been hoping that (a) a new one would be released and (b) it would be approaching how good its predecessor is. But I'll judge it when I hear it...

Avalanches new album rumoured to be released as early as today

Wouldn't apologise for your excitement. You're right, it's been a long wait and to be honest I can't see many examples of people gushing in here. A few examples of why I avoid this board in the first place though.

Avalanches new album rumoured to be released as early as today

It seems like the Frontier Psychiatrist of this album - as great as that track was it didn't really exactly gel with the rest of the album sonically. It was more of an exclamation point.
  7. The Flying Belgian

Avalanches new album rumoured to be released as early as today

Seems to me it was chosen as a lead-off single in time for the gigs they were playing. Say what you want about the song, it gets in your head and it's easy to singalong to.

Avalanches new album rumoured to be released as early as today

Yep, immediately reminded me of Rock City. I'm struggling to think of an Insane Clown Posse song this reminds me of (not that I could be called anywhere close to being a fan). Yes, circus music are often polkas, but it didn't remind me of the circus at all. I was actually quite impressed with...

    Misheard lyrics

In the baby Baby Animals song Early Warning, I misheard the opening refrain "Too young to know, too old to listen" as "Too young to know she was a lizard". Hmmm.

    Radiohead tour

If it's 10 years until the next tour I'll be pissed. I ranked a couple of Midnight Oil gigs as being tied for the best live shows I've seen, but they've been eclipsed by what I saw last night. The two drum kits (and at times 4 percussionists) really made the sound. I'm not a drummer, but Phil...

Definitely wasn't expecting that. But I liked it.

Agree with both. I knew I'd like the new BF5 as Pitchfork gave it 3.5! Latest Bloc Party is pleasing me also. About to delve into Four Tet and Dan Deacon. Quite a bit of good new music around ATM after an ordinary first half of the year.

Had a couple of listens to the Cat Power album. Having though that her previous work was somewhat overrated, I'm rather impressed with it. And have just had a first listen through the new Ben Folds Five which is quite handy.

Is it? I thought Drag City confirmed it's been the only thing Berman has done since the Silver Jews called it a day.

The Avalanches released a spoken word track. At least a sign that the second album may (a) exist and (b) maybe not too far away.

Sorry to hear you didn't like it harker. Maybe it'll come round with a few more listens? New Grizzly Bear song: Not to everyone's taste, I know. New album due out in a few months.

    Favourite Rolling Stones song?

Gimme Shelter hands down. Typifies their blue-influenced rock and has all the ingredients of a great rock song. Simple but great chord progression, hooks, emotion. The bit at the 3 minute mark when Merry Clayton's voice breaks and you hear someone in the background (Mick presumably) yells out...

Crap, crap, crap. Paul's Boutique changed the way I listened to music and is still my favourite album ever.
