Why our game plan wins – A thesis

Good point. Part of the secret sauce is timing. Both in games, and across the season. Hardwick has always been clear in his view that momentum is critical in all sports. No point having the momentum going your way at quarter time or in Round 1. (Are you listening, Carlton?)

Why our game plan wins – A thesis

This might be the point that opposition supporters struggle with. Our bottom 6 can not be beaten one on one. Can not. They don't miss tackles. They might not win a lot of contests, but they don't lose any. And they don't stop chasing and harassing. Do they play pretty outside footy? Not really...

Why our game plan wins – A thesis

Absolutely. The game style isn't hard to copy, and IMO, was not something original Hardwick introduced to football. The "kulcha" is very different from anything we've seen at the top level in my lifetime.

Why our game plan wins – A thesis

Field position is an important ingredient, I reckon. We don't play the chaos game in the back pocket. Our HBFs are elite metres-gained players, not knocking it forward 5 metres. Down-the-line Dave is a reliable and predictable 50 metre roost to the boundary. Grimes, Vlas and Broad never try to...

Why our game plan wins – A thesis

Good post, Doc. I generally agree, and you've put it well. I'd probably express the "shadow" phase differently. I'd say that no matter who has the ball, there's an amount of pressure, and a risk of a poor disposal. At AFL level, the players are good enough to hit the target with a tackler up...

AFLW Round 4 - Carlton v Richmond at IKON PARK, Saturday 3.10pm AEDT

Yeah, I think Bo nailed the general direction of my reply. Free market economics explains this. Supply and demand. Plenty of supply of experience, AFL-level men, so they come cheap. Not so much on the women's side, especially during rapid expansion of the competition, and the equation is...

    Hocking’s Mess

I'm a person who will watch almost any game of Aussie Rules. VFL, AFLW, I'm there. Juniors playing when I'm on the way to the shops? I'll stop and watch. sh*t, I'll go stand in the rain on a cold Sunday to watch my local team, and they have finished bottom few in Div 3 for years. I don't stop...

AFLW Round 4 - Carlton v Richmond at IKON PARK, Saturday 3.10pm AEDT

I see your general point, and mostly agree. The draftee kids coming in have been better than established players, and I reckon that will continue. You have to get great value to make recruiting an older player return the cost of recruiting them. But we've gotta build a cohesive team, not simply...

AFLW Round 4 - Carlton v Richmond at IKON PARK, Saturday 3.10pm AEDT

Twice in 5 minutes on the same opponent. It's an action that is not easy to perform. Once is careless. She's a Carlton player, through and through, IMO.

AFLW Round 4 - Carlton v Richmond at IKON PARK, Saturday 3.10pm AEDT

Good post. How different was the level of VFLW compared to the AFLW??? Gotta say, I was expecting all those Tigers to slot straight in and play well. Bit silly of me, really. The stand-out clubs are Adelaide, Freo and Brissy. Gotta play the best to be the best, and that doesn't happen in the...

AFLW Round 4 - Carlton v Richmond at IKON PARK, Saturday 3.10pm AEDT

Prepaskis got a week, and deserved it. She belongs at Carlton. Cheat. Possibly the difference in the game was the 20 minutes when Sarah Hosking was off the ground.

AFLW Round 3 - Richmond v Collingwood at Swinburne Centre, 3.10pm AEDT

Or the Goldies, or the Eagles. Reckon we'd give the Saints a red hot run this season, too. Their "win" was on the back of 26 to 6 frees. I was at that Dogs game and Saints supporters were laughing. They know they weren't the better team on the night.

AFLW Round 3 - Richmond v Collingwood at Swinburne Centre, 3.10pm AEDT

I'm not unhappy Brennan got a vote. She turned the tide our way in the last. But yes, agree, I had McKenzie as the best Tiger on the field, and I am officially on the Seymour bandwagon. I give these votes some credibility because they come from the coaches. The Rising Star is like...

AFLW Round 3 - Richmond v Collingwood at Swinburne Centre, 3.10pm AEDT

I reckon the better teams are the ones who can move the ball forward into space, rather than having to hit targets all the way. Freo do it really well. A few times in their game against the Crows, they had no players inside 50 when they kicked it in, and they still goaled. Or just the Full...

AFLW Round 3 - Richmond v Collingwood at Swinburne Centre, 3.10pm AEDT

I reckon Freo look like the best team this season by some distance. Seen some bloody good footy out of Adelaide, Brisbane, the Pies and NM. Wouldn't have had Melb in that bracket, but their win against NM this week was pretty impressive. Then there's the good ordinary teams - Doggies, GWS and...

AFLW Round 3 - Richmond v Collingwood at Swinburne Centre, 3.10pm AEDT

Full credit to Collingwood. Deserved the win. But we pushed 'em. I can see it coming together. Lavey was a great in. McKenzie's first 3 vote game, with plenty to come. The defence held up ok against some bloody good opposition, kicking goals from everywhere. The midfield looks less brittle...

Yeah, I'd say it definitely means no crowd. Spewing. Love watching footy at PRO and it's been a looong time for me.
