Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) - Discussion

Would be to do with crowd logistics. In 2013 Geelong got their home final in Geelong because 4 games at the G didn't fit in 3 days. Also now I think about it, with 10 victorian teams that's 5 games in Victoria each week, which is easily handled by 3 at one of the MCG/Docklands, and 2 at the...

Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) - Discussion

Probably depends on the time of year. There's often 3 a weekend in a season, though I think that's limited more by not being able to have multiple games on one day than the load on the ground itself. At a minimum I reckon you could play 4 games a week there in winter, and 5 in spring/summer when...

Marvel stadium in a few words

Agree that for all train lines in the north/west (both V line and metro) Docklands is easier to get to. But I’m pretty sure V Lines from Gippsland stop at Richmond so the G isn’t a hassle to get to.

The tragedy that is the design of Docklands Stadium

In early rounds (and some late rounds even) when there’s minimal dew risk, they should open the roof for night games. Looks cool. Think they’ve done it before, Essendon v Adelaide in R1 last year maybe? Roof shut otherwise thanks

    MCG needs to increase capacity

The GF is almost always full. Last year, for example, 100,021 showed up. That means across the whole stadium, 3 seats/standing spaces were vacant.

    MCG needs to increase capacity

Corporate tickets are the ones that can gagf. MCC I can live with since they fund the ground and if you’ve sat on a waiting list for goodness knows how long you’ve probably earnt it. Shits me when people who have absolutely no care for the game get such privileged access though. I was lucky...

    MCG needs to increase capacity

Good, attendances are clearly at record high

    MCG needs to increase capacity

If you're using a Collingwood vs Port game as a reason why attendances are not at record levels, well then there's your problem.

    MCG needs to increase capacity

Sorry to burst the bubble but the only thing left of the 1956 MCG is in Canberra.

    MCG needs to increase capacity

Does KP hold major events most weekends every year? Attract millions of tourist dollars? Didn't think so.

    MCG Southern Stand upgrade

When that cricket ground is used primarily for football and is prepared as such, it is ok. In September, the only thing 'cricket' about the ground is its name.

    MCG Southern Stand upgrade

Of course you'd refuse to play the grand final on a rugby ground

    MCG Southern Stand upgrade

You want pragmatic? Remember in 2013 when they couldn't get all of the Fremantle supporters over in a week? That issue is a 1 in 9 (2 teams out of 18) chance of happening at any given grand final. You could possibly expand it to 2 in 9 if you count Brisbane/Gold Coast in that. Now imagine a...

GF to Be Played at other Venues

Should be a neutral venue really. The best way would be similar to the NFL some selection system. Need a few stadiums with at least 80k capacity first though,

    AFL's 300m Stadium Dream

Etihad's not perfect, but it's better than any other option that's been thrown out there. Could you imagine a game at the G and a game at either Punt Rd or Eddie's thing? The traffic would be mental. I've never really minded going to matches there, pretty good atmosphere and comfortable. I'd...

    Punt Rd 40,000-seat stadium proposal

There's probably a few too many restrictions on the ground to do this, it already sits practically on top of Brunton Ave and pretty close to punt rd. The reason it's probably been thrown out there is because Ed's just come up with his thing and everyone's going 'well it's better than eddies...
