There were already signs of scoring shot yips and doubts emerging - but that was the moment that sealed the deal. From then on team confidence was shot to pieces. Yes, even at 26 points up.
We can’t afford to carry players that may miss from 20m straight in front from a set shot.
Banfield was NOT OK. He is not AFL standard and must be dropped to Peel to be saved only for back up. This nonsense of coaches picking him in R1 each year is ridiculous. I guarantee if Erasmus was playing instead of him we would not have had that momentum killer in Q2. That was the moment...
He butchered it badly 3 times in his first 10 disposals. Saints first goal came from his turnover, where incidentally he got 2 disposals by running around for a cheapie before getting squeezed.
The difference between a guy like him and Serong is stark.
You may be right but over a 10 game block I’d trust Tucker more than Acres. Other than for that more recent period in the backline, Tucker didn’t use to put in howlers - yes he can be prone to going quiet though.
I'm not sure I agree with the notion that only B22 players should be offered 3 year contracts. Clearly that is going to be the norm, but if we could lock in say Meek (or any other player who is essentially AFL quality but behind a B22 superstar), on money that we believe to be below market...
Agree Acres is almost a dead cert to be picked for R1. However, his form line is always so volatile and his pre season is peak Acres - which in turn is not as sublime as many others.
So given his history of going quiet, or worse stinking it up, Tucker’s return from injury could cause him...
With the numbers of small forwards we have compared to genuine mids, surely Banfield goes before Brodie? Especially with Crowden as sub. Inside midfield rotation is weak if not (only Fyfe, Brayshaw, Serong and Mundy).
Otherwise spot on.
