Whitten Oval Redevelopment Plans (UPDATE: No AFL Games)

I agree; we also have the EJ Whitten Social Club. I said a while back we should rename it the Gordon stand as I think he has had more positive and critical influence on our club than any other individual certainly in my life time.

Well it was a very dumb decision and insulting to fans who attended these mediocre venues.

    Play Nice 2022 AFL/AFLW Crowds/TV Ratings/Stream thread

Collingwood and Essendon were scheduled today on a public holiday at Collingwood's training and admin venue which is very much lacking in spectator comfort and viewing rather than at Victoria Park which still has two public grandstands and decent hill areas. Another example of woeful scheduling...

The official sold out crowd at Punt Rd Oval for Dogs/Roos 2121. The grandstand side was closed for most fans who were crammed into a small low gradient hill that made it difficult for children and short people (not me!) to see. Poor facilities for toilets and food. I know the Dyer stand...

Strategy Trade and List management Thread Part 5 (opposition supporters - READ posting rules before posting)

I recall seeing him play for Williamstown a few times. He did nothing to indicate that he was anything more than a solid player at VFL level.

Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 2

It's very misleading (and indeed Kremlin propaganda) to use the Russian language as a divide in Ukraine that justifies the annexation of large parts of the country when so many persons in the country identity as ethnic Ukrainians but have Russian as their first language. The Ukrainian...

As well as the matches being on earlier in Perth, there is the secondary channel factor. We'd get higher ratings in WA if the there if the FTA TV rights were held with a network that would show all AFL matches on the main channel.

Our forwards can't win a contest to save their life. They all have been hopeless.

Not Worth A Thread - Random Bulldog Discussion - Part 2

Even better was that Collingwood paid us a lot of money not to take Gary Shaw with that first pick and he never amounted to much.

Purser was excellent for his size and was rewarded with the 1984 Best and Fairest. A little known fact is that he was a number 1 draft pick in the long forgotten 1982 VFL interstate draft; it was great we got such a good player our of such a wretched year. Brad Hardie was actually picked at...

Absolutely, loved especially the second half of the show!

I'm going to see the cover band, the Smyths, tonight so this is very apt. Bulldogs of the World, unite and takeover!

Tasmania Battle for the Tasmanian License Megathread - "in principle agreement reached", stadium dependent 18/11

And it's not just the total number of hours watched. A big majority of the TV rights come from Foxtel/Kayo subscriptions and there must be a large law of diminishing return in play. 11 extra games from Tasmania or anywhere else is unlikely to drive up their subscription revenue anywhere near...

Not Worth A Thread - Random Bulldog Discussion - Part 2

Good question. According to Wikipedia the 1986 draft was the last one where Victorian clubs had sole recruitment options from their country zones prior to the draft. Standfield was born in February 1970 so my guess is that we were able to and did sign him as a 16 year old. Players were often...

GWS is the AFL's biggest problem - not North, GC, or Tassie

Whilst they may get more supporters of the big Vic clubs coming to matches in Eastern Sydney you'd have to think it would be very marginal. There are 20k more seats at the SCG and the ground would seem even more empty and devoid of atmosphere than the Showgrounds which would further discourage...

GWS is the AFL's biggest problem - not North, GC, or Tassie

Not a very convincing interview from the Giants chairman. Blaming Covid for the decline in their Sydney attendances when this affected all sporting teams there (and other cities) and stating they are considering playing the big Victorian clubs at the SCG doesn't inspire much confidence that he...

GWS is the AFL's biggest problem - not North, GC, or Tassie

Unfortunately, this is true. Other than the poor facilities compared to the Showgrounds it's also a decent hike from the nearest train stations (Doonside and Rooty Hill). Yes, there's a train change needed but their current ground is very close to a train station...

VFL Footscray vs Coburg Saturday 6 August, 12.05pm AEST @ WO

Last week against Werribee, he did not return after half time and had his knee heavily iced. Not sure why he hasn't been included in the injury list.
