I was in the old Olympic stand in the 2002 grand final. I reckon Rocco’s shot was a goal. I can’t understand why the woods didn’t take it to the high court.
😜 Great times
I am not a subscriber to the coaches play favorites theory.
surely the coaches pick the side they believe most likely to beat the opposition. I guess they would consider selecting players who might strengthen the side in the short or longer term if they are exposed to AFL level rather than VFL...
I don’t think Joyce is like for like with Greene. My impression is Greene‘s path to AFL would be as a half back flanker, though he may have potential to play further up the field. Joyce is more like Arnold or Buzza. Personally I can’t understand why one of them wasn’t preferred to Joyce. Joyce’s...
Nice to see the VFL guys getting a bit of recognition. They play an important role in maintaining the development pathway of their AFL team mates. And I guess they are keeping the dream alive even if it’s a bit of a struggle with additional work commitments.
Thanks G17 for the great write up. Work of key forwards sounds great. Did you pick up on the defensive match ups, particularly who Joyce was on. Did he look up to AFL standard if Gardiner and Payne don’t come up?
Yes I agree he is a valuable asset and I would be surprised if the club didn’t have a similar view. I think the club would have him high on the list of out of contract players to re sign, but won’t sell the farm to keep him.
For those who attended any comments on the progress of HSmith or Lane? I’ve picked them up in photos but I don’t think I’ve seen any comments.
just on Linc I like him in the side because he is one of the few players that can really lay a tackle that stops the opposition player. Maybe he needs...
I liked this because i agree that McKenna could take the utility role and has a higher upside in terms of finding more possessions and adding more offence than Ah Chee.
However I like Ah Chee and he will be stiff if he is the unlucky 24th player on the list.
No disrespect our current group, but Voss ( Brownlow and was voted best on ground by experts who cast their votes at the end of the 2002 game), Aker (Brownlow), Hart (Norm Smith), Black (Brownlow and Norm Smith), Nigel Lapin, Luke Power were a pretty strong group. They all played really well in...
Very nice write up of the difference between the approach of professional recruiters and amateurs.
one other thing that may be considered is the fact that, according to people who watch them play, we have two kids in the academy that might be AFL standard key position backs.
all the more...
I’d like to see Wilmot selected in the firsts as often as possible. To me he is like Ashcroft, a prodigious talent that almost demands to played in the firsts. He just missed being eligible in this years draft by a day I think.
very difficult selection decisions coming up.
Yep Zorko had a good 2021 making the AA squad of 40. As did Lyons. Probably helps to understand why the coaching group continued to back them. Even if with hindsight they probably should have sent Lyons for treatment abit earlier.
I was involved in providing grants to MVAC while Phil was CEO. There were rumours about how he structured the organisation and managed funds at the time, as there are about many general community organisations. I didn’t see anything concrete to warrant an investigation.
I find it interesting...
I worry about our key position depth a bit too, but thinking back to our repeat years I don’t think we had any greater depth. As MM said you make your own luck but when it comes to injuries it is very hard to overcome serious injury to key players.
in 2001/04 we had three quality kpfs Brown...
