Analysis Hawthorn rebuild: are they tanking?

The highlighted bits don't make a lot of sense to me. 3 years ago, Adelaide finished stone motherless last. They didn't win a single game until the final month of the season. In fact, they went on a 16 game losing streak and the question was raised if they would win a game at all. Throughout...

Who are the "can do no wrong" fan favorites?

I really like him but I think Jiath is probably a Hawthorn candidate for this. He's exciting, he takes the game on, he is super athletic and super fit and has all the tools to be an elite player. However, he also has brain fades, runs himself into trouble (i.e. takes too many players on when...

Analysis Hawthorn rebuild: are they tanking?

I don't think the sentiment you have quoted is all that optimistic. It was not suggested Hawthorn would win a flag within 3 years again. Rather, it seemed designed to highlight that the result of a Round 1 clash (in the middle of a rebuild) is not a good indication on the future success of...

Analysis Hawthorn rebuild: are they tanking?

Yep, youngest list is not a complaint at all. Just highlighting the inconsistent reality of young lists. I fully expect Hawthorn will have a shocker against one of those three clubs, just as I expect Hawthorn will beat a top 8 team at some stage. Have absolutely no clue who or when it will be...

Analysis Hawthorn rebuild: are they tanking?

Gee, Big Footy remains incredibly reactive, doesn't it? An admittedly pretty poor loss in Round 1 from the youngest list in the comp and immediately the spoon is guaranteed, list is a shambles, coach will be sacked, won't win a game and comparisons made to Melbourne in 2013. Funnily enough...

Analysis Hawthorn rebuild: are they tanking?

People always way over estimate the difference between the poor sides and the good sides at the top level. We've now seen literally thousands of examples. Average players in good teams tend to be average players in average teams too. Good players in average teams are typically good players...

Round 2023 Round 1 - SC Season Opener Preview - Let the Games Begin / Festival of the Midpricer

Was discussed but consensus was that with Melbourne to have a few to come in (particularly Fritsch) that his JS was more iffy than the alternatives.

Not often you have 3 sub 20 scores half way through a round is it?

Round 2023 Round 1 - SC Season Opener Preview - Let the Games Begin / Festival of the Midpricer

Hehe.. not keen to get into it all over again but metres gained is an atrocious stat. Getting a contested centre clearance to a team mate coming off the back of the square is a viable attacking move that is "penalised" with negative metres gained. Ball winning and retention is often as, if not...

    Opinion 2023 Player X vs Y vs Z

Liked the thinking and no blame of course but switched from Option1 to Option 2 today after reading your post. Immediate ouch with Stewart.

Round 2023 Round 1 - SC Season Opener Preview - Let the Games Begin / Festival of the Midpricer

As a Hawthorn supporting Titch defender over the years, I've always noticed and admired your ongoing commitment to the idea he is a bad supercoach choice 😉. Aside from last season when played out of position, he has ended up the 3rd highest scorer in the league (2017), 2nd (2018), 11th (2020...

Round 2023 Round 1 - SC Season Opener Preview - Let the Games Begin / Festival of the Midpricer

Been pretty bullish on a relatively unpopular selection in Titch. Was pretty worried at 3 quarter time. But what a last quarter he has had so far. 52 points in 9 minutes with 4 clearances, 3 chase down tack 7 contested possessions and the go ahead goal.

Round 2023 Round 1 - SC Season Opener Preview - Let the Games Begin / Festival of the Midpricer

Downgraded Oliver 2 hours ago to turn Ridley back in to Stewart.... You can't make this up!

    Opinion 2023 Player X vs Y vs Z

Was feeling too thin in the forwards (with yuck looking rookies) after trading out McLean and Fyfe. Option 1: Oliver, Ridley and Long (Greene on field) - 6K ITB Option 2: Coniglio, Stewart and Constable (Baker on field) - 42K ITB

    Opinion 2023 Player X vs Y vs Z

Don't love any of them but leaning the same way. Prefer Sturt as a player but job security edges Long ahead.

Thanks, was just about to post a 3rd option... Stewart and Worpel vs. Ridley and Green?

    Opinion 2023 Player X vs Y vs Z

Anyone? (Had Stewart and Fyfe and after having to trade in Yeo and McLean, have $120K. Decided I like Green as a likely break out and have gone a bit cold on Fyfe playing deep forward and injury history. Not sure the Stewart to Ridley downgrade (and bank use) is worth it?)

Not a heap of confidence in Day but I like this trio more.

Which team out of Adelaide, North and Hawthorn has the better youth?

Not to mention he made the big 'youth focussed' call of not playing Goldstein. Shiels over Phillips does look a head-scratcher on the surface but as you say, you have plenty of kids out there and Shiels will play the sacrificial role of blocking (and opening channels) for his younger team mates...

    Top 10 KP Backmen

Underatted for sure and better than some of the (in all honesty pretty silly) names thrown up in this thread. Still not in genuine top 10 all time contention though - as I hope my top 10 above evidences. More competing for a top 30 spot.
