The four goals bit is BS (he kicked 16, mostly in the second half of the year) but it's an accurate reporting of what was said on the WB website. Did they do this to get Gowers under everyone's guard for the opening few games? Or was it just incompetence?
No.
The criteria: he must have played no more than 10 games at start of season and be under 21 on 1st January. He is OK on the first count but not on the 2nd. He missed out by 2 months.
Ahhh I think you missed the thrust of it ... she does understand your point.
Anyway, metaphors aside, I agree with you and your comments about Griffen are generous (but spot on). Quality player and quality guy.
Cheers. I hope Port gives it a shake this year.
Yes on that basis we'd be a Monty for a first rounder if Cooney went, but ...
There is some chance of that. The last I heard the AFL was still deliberating on whether they would allocate any compensation for FA transfers this year. Certainly not guaranteed.
RS criteria: no more than 10 games and under 21 at 1 January this year. WB players eligible in 2013 are:
Stringer
Macrae
Roberts
Pearce
Hrovat
Hunter
Prudden
Young
Talia
Johannisen
Jong
Agree, but not sure why you've quoted me, KH. I wasn't pumping up Grant's tyres. Would love him to make it but it's looking longer and longer odds as every week goes by. This year is surely his last chance with the WB.
It would be hard not to like his game:
Over 20 possessions
Disposal efficiency almost 80%
No fatigue fadeout (as reported a few weeks back - against Freo I think it was)
Lots of dash out of defence, evasive
Confident and aggressive at the ball/opposition. Confident with the ball.
Courage and 1%ers
Agree with this, but can't agree that Macca was "in love with" a slow forward line and I think Dan's making a similar point. You've just got to work with what you've got. You need to balance age/experience/physical maturity as well as speed.
Anyway Higgo's out for the year, Dicko for another...
Also I think Will may still be a good ruck in 2016-17 if his body remains sound. Our next premiership window will be ajar by then, if not wide open with the curtains blowing in the breeze.
Not many had Dahlhaus in their best 5 last Saturday against Brisbane (I didn't) but it's worth pointing out that he had an enormous effect on the game in the first 20 minutes or so. He seemed to have a hand in nearly every goal and was easily BoG up to then. We finished the quarter with 6...
Like Stringer, this kid seems to have a bit of presence about him, although in a different way. Not that tantalising hint of arrogance that you get from Stringer, but still a very strong self-belief. It's more a sense of being obsessed with footy and prepared to put all his smarts (on-field...
Twins on the way! Hope they're boys ... he will pass 100 games this year.
Good profile of him, too. When people poo-poo the idea of "quality" people we should just point them at Liam Picken. Give me a Liam Picken over a Jason Akermanis any day. You build a Team (with a capital T) around...
Question for the mods Ant_, Mike2009, Igloo and Testekill ...
If the Cordy thread got moved to Dog Tags, shouldn't this one get moved too?
I note that since it got moved the Cordy discussion has pretty much dried up. TBH, I seldom look in the Dog Tags forum.
Dunno what the answer...
I know what you blokes mean about it being better to have 20 high efficiency disposals than 30 bad ones* with say 20% being turnovers BUT ... if Boyd gets his hands on the ball 10 times fewer that probably means the opposition gets their hands on it more often and earlier than if we had turned...
